  1. @ Dieter They are similar to the vintage Hanson salmon plugs " shovel nose". Was just curious as to there action vs. the orenos. from a profile they are similar, and they look cool to big factor in lure design, well it sounds good anyway, will post pics when all done. Thanks Dieter to much fun David J
  2. I don't know if the cute factor plays a roll in angling, but that one sure gets high marks on the chart, nice job Mark, I bet no fish aint never seen nothin like that David J
  3. @ Dieter Built two more Oreno style lures, and I built two similar size plugs that you built in one of your videos, they have a dished face on an angle to the body of the plug, but I can not remember what you called them, just wanted to compare the action between the two, will post pic's after test drives. All wet here lots of rain and big light show.... David J
  4. @ Dieter Well epoxy is drying, but looks like we are do for 8 to 10 inch's of rain over the next 3 days so my test creek will be a raging river for a few days but that is ok, I will just build another few with different tails just to see which has the action I want, and I always enjoy painting them even if they don't perform as desired, the rejects go in my wifes craft room for decoration, she loves them , ha, so even a fail is a score with the boss, I am definitely living the life, will report back with pics and results thanks everyone for the help. David J
  5. Dieter, Dave; Well I was already out in the shop building when you both replied. I built and painted 2 and didn't think of the taper having that much of an impact so I built one short with a good taper and one long with a not so good taper and I will see if I can use different hook sizes to maintain a correct attitude in the water. Thanks for your help I always look forward to the two of you and your informative reply's, will give these two a test drive after the epoxy dries. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you both Thanks David J
  6. Have been looking through old posts and read about the Bass Orenos and had a few questions, were they weighted and if so did they have a nose down inclination or sit level in the water, did they make suspending or were they all floating, have been building a lot of tango minnows of late and fell in love with these vintage lures, so it is off to the shop to build some Orenos, any help at all would be appreciated, thanks for the help David J
  7. I play blues guitar and the occasional fiddle tune on my old violin, the fender strat hasn't seen daylight in quite some time, life does seem to get in the way. But my wood lathe runs for hrs a week, not just lures but a little of everything else' David J
  8. Had a great day on the lake yesterday I caught a nice keeper small mouth on a bait I painted, but the two guys I went with loaded the boat. Didn't catch anything on my tangos but the guys told me the water was to warm and that the tangos would be a good bait in another month or so, but my custom painted cranks were the winners of the day. Dieter I See you have been busy, those look fantastic, one of the guys I work with has a couple of these originals that he is bringing me to look at, so in the interim of the thanksgiving weekend it is off to the shop I go to see if I can do your tutelage any justice, thanks again David J
  9. Dave; Happy to see you chime in, you always bring something to the discussion. David J
  10. Hi Dieter; up early this morning, read your post, watched the video and looked at the pictures, man your mind is always working, the best solutions are usually, the simplest, applause applause that one scores, excellent solution. Can not wait to see the new ones you are making. Was curious though, are you putting some of your line tie below center-line of the lure body. and if so how does it affect performance, or is it just the acute angle and the eye hole being at to steep of an angle. On another note I think you and I are the same age, so I totally understand sore bones, but it is not supposed to be to bad here in southern Missouri this morning 40 degree or so, hopefully a good day on the lake I see you are making the new one from teak, the two I have made are from eastern red cedar, I have a lot of red oak, white oak, cherry and hickory lumber in my storage shed, just wandering how one of the denser hardwoods would perform hmm , anyway I am glad to see your interest reignited in this fantastic old design. Happy shavings.... David J
  11. Dieter; going to try your suggestions on body modifications for a deeper diver and a more active action, watched your videos and it seems the pike like these baits. Going to the lake in the morning, never been on one of those fancy bass boats, so one of the guys I build lures and custom paint for is taking me fishing, see if the bull shoals lake large mouth like these baits but one thing is for sure, I like them. thanks again for your help and suggestions, I will keep you posted on rattle's performance, design changes and results.........David J
  12. Dieter, thanks so much I will do all the afore mentioned, I really want to take this style of lure to task, I am totally intrigued with this body type, hrs of fun in the shop and on the water thanks so much for all your help and I will keep you posted on results.........David J
  13. Dieter, these are a my version thanks for the help David J
  14. Dieter; just had my two tango minnows down at my test river, wow, love them, the small one has a nice tight wobble and tends to hunt a little, diving to around 4 foot or so and the larger one has a lovely wide wobble that will suit real well for colder water and dives to around 6 foot or so. I can see a whole lot more of these in my future, down here in wiggle wart country, these will fit in perfect. Question for you have you ever put a rattle in one of these and if so did it affect the action adversely. Thanks again for your help and i am going to try and post pictures to the gallery...... David J
  15. Dieter; just looked up your " rush tango minnow " quite a history the little guy has, I have to make one of these just for nostalgia sake if nothing else, out to the shop I go, blanks will wait, I will post my results when I am done, you are the bomb, thanks again so much, new friend, new lure to build, what a positive way to start the week, David J
  16. Diemai; Thanks so much for your help, I know this is an old thread but it could stand to be revisited, I am an industrial maintenance mechanic and i work on 1\4 million dollar mills and lathes where traming and repair on said machines you work in micron measurements and micro voltages etc, etc, etc so there is a nice feeling of satisfaction to do something by eye touch and feel. I cannot wait to get in the shop and try this bait on the lathe, but I have to paint and clear coat a dozen blanks first maybe I can get to it today, thanks again for your help. David J
