  1. Thanks! I did some searching earlier (obviously not successfully) and didn't turn anything up. Appreciate the link!
  2. Does anyone add lead to their crankbait bills? I have flattened split shot in a vise and epoxied them to the underside of a couple circuit board deep divers and I liked the results compared to similar baits without the added lead. Just curious if anyone has any opinions or previous experience in this area..
  3. Just throwing this out there... I have not used the rust oleum but I have been using ace clear gloss enamel before a final epoxy coat. I have been using permanent marker to add details to my baits and have not had any running to speak of with any color marker.

Foil shad crankbaits Note-the belly weight is not connected to the hook hanger on the crankbait in the front.

Them things are hard to beat I've seen some big 7+ pond fish come on that bait I've been known to put a 3" fluke on a rr head In The early spring. Good for schooling fish too
  6. It works man! I haven't put a bend in it yet but I will try it out. I still seem to get plenty of vibration with the plastic (still shakes rod tip hard) I do bend the metal ones

Those look really nice! Cold water killer. Pops won a lot of money in winter tourneys around here back in the day on a white/ silver road runner.
  8. you guys are right on...excellent advice...vodkaman you are a man of brilliance, be assured your wisdom does not fall on deaf ears here. Jrammit you are correct it does not go both ways! I do laugh at how my girlfriend judges my lures in terms of their "pretty" factor though
  9. I painted my girlfriend a princess pink crankbait for her key ring so for the moment she is happy. I tell her all about it (she just kind of nods) and she tells me all about clothes, work drama, etc lol.
  10. That sums it up right there!! Ought to be the TU anthem. Thanks for the welcomes and a laugh! Broke my finger yesterday Splinted finger proving difficult to make baits with but not impossible. Needless to say I needed a good laugh
  11. I am right there with ya on the brushes .thanks jrammit I used a ratchet handle and rolled it across the tape one way then turned the tape and did it from the other direction. As best I can tell on the old rapalas and bagleys they only roll it across once in the same direction. Truth be told I trashed a coupe of pieces of tape to get it looking right without smudges, etc
  12. Hey thanks man I appreciate it , you build an impressive bait yourself. Especially fond of your black back/yellow belly/gold flake and ten shad
  13. Apologies, I have located where this question was already answered
  14. Can anyone suggest a proper thickness/gauge of brass wire for bass sized crankbaits?

Bobp you make a beautiful bait! That bait (and others you've made) would be killer on Buggs island too.
  17. Absolutely amazing crankbait...as a beginner this blows my mind
  18. Robby, thanks for the encouragement man! Means a lot to a new guy. My skills need A LOT of work still especially painting but I look forward to posting some work in the future that is actually gallery worthy. I see an airbrush in my future when I hone more of the basics. -zach
  19. Hello everyone, as a new guy here on TU I feel it is appropriate to share a home brew tackle trick that I started doing about a year ago. The lid of a Plano type tackle box that I was storing crankbaits in broke on me and I had a wild idea to make a chatterbait blade out of it. I traced it using a spare blade, cut it out with tin snips and deburred the edges with sandpaper, drilled the holes with a small drill bit and assembled the bait like an ordinary vibrating swim jig. I have been very pleased with the results, probably as a result of the different vibration/sound/less flash than the typical metal blade. Something to keep in the back of your mind -zach
  20. This is maybe the 5th or 6th foil crankbait I have made, and the only one I am happy with enough to put in the gallery. I am still very very green at making crankbaits, so any advice would be greatly appreciated if you are so inclined to offer! The Gill and dot are brush painted acrylic over hvac aluminum tape; the only thing "unconventional" is the use of a thin piece of electrical tape epoxied to the back before the the clear coat (a suggestion from my artistic cousin) instead of paint. We shall see if it is durable enough.

I really like the "faded" appearance of that color it would catch a lot of fish in Va lakes and tidal rivers
  23. Thank you for the welcomes gentlemen. I definetly am having fun making crankbaits since I made my first one about 2 months ago. It's become sort of an addiction, making and tweaking baits every spare moment. There is Absolutely something special about handmade wooden Baits, obviously others have discovered this way before me!!
  24. Excuse my typo- meant to say come to like it
