  1. The lam plate is not laminating the entire bait and basically stops at the tip of the worm. See the bottom worm in the pic to get my drift. Not too big a deal when you are using a matching tip but if you are not it looks off.
  2. I have the mold and have had good success with the worm. Highly recommend it. I also have the lam plate and tip mold. If I could do it over I’d probably pass on the lam plate but for me the tip mold is a must.
  3. LOL, that's the direction I'm just getting started toward. But I tell ya there is a trend to a more ultra compact flipping style with a short hook that I would really like to see a mold for. I have meathooks for sure but those are 1/2oz jigs. Anyone familiar with a similar mold to the cobra?
  4. Well I guess this leads me to another question. Since I'm new to this and my stuff hasn't really replaced too much of what was previously in my arsenal, how much tougher are our homemade finishes vs some of the retail jigs available?
  5. Curious if anyone else is double baking their jig heads? Not sure where I heard/read/watched it but supposedly if you cure them, let them cool completely and then bake them again the finish becomes that much tougher.
  6. Very similar in that there is not much action at all. It glides just like the Beav. I fish it completely intact from 3/16 - 1 1/4oz. with excellent results.
  7. Same here. That Stinger is sweet.
  8. Thanks for the info. I think I'll give the griddle a shot.
  9. I'm contemplating adding a griddle to my process. I used the microwave exclusively for some time but got tired of constantly reheating. I recently added the small fry daddy to the mix but its not efficient once you get to a cup or less and it'll burn the plastic in a heartbeat if you are not careful. Amazon has a bunch of different griddles from 8" and up and they are pretty cheap. My workspace is getting smaller and smaller so I'd like to hear from the folks who use a griddle if its worth it and what my expectations should be as they relate to keeping plastic up to temp.
  10. I've got it. Shot a bunch of them and they come out great. I cant speak for the action vs the Zako but its bit tighter than the LF magic shad.
  11. Easy mold to shoot and I've had good success with the lure. I highly recommend it.
  12. Any difference btw the action of the 702 and 736 from Basstackle?
  13. Cant say that I've read it somewhere. Really have shot a bunch of baits around that temp there but I use dark, opaque colors so I wouldn't notice any yellowing. I also add my color and scent prior to heating. I tried shooting some at 310 and I'm getting closer still a swirl but not as bad. I'll give 300 a try.
  14. I've got the 4" Stinger and absolutely love it. I'm looking for something with a bit more thump to it so I'm considering the 538.
  15. Great advice all, thanks much. I had been shooting around 355+ I'll bring those temps way down and see how that helps. Re: lam or not to lam, I routinely use a much heavier weight than normal and am confident that that extra flash helps with the reaction bite
  16. Thanks. Any recommendations to get those temps closer? I don't do huge batches, maybe a doz or two baits per session, ~1 cup per color at a time. Is there an ideal laminating temp?
  17. I'm having issues getting good laminates. I use the basstackle twinjector and all of my molds are multi cavity. Half looks perfect and the other half has a swirl to it. Every now and then I'll get one bait out of the mold to be perfect, usually closest to the port and they'll get progressively worse as you move down the sprue. Any ideas are much appreciated. Here is sample of one of my better ones, LOL.
  18. Has anyone used this mold ? Thoughts? It looks the part. I'd be using it as a flipping bait and alternative jig trailer.
  19. Can you leave unused lead in your pot to be heated again and poured another day? New to pouring lead and I'm not sure what the protocol is. I've got the small 10lb Lee's pot. Thanks, ScottyMac
  20. Thank you both for the advice. ScottyMac
  21. What's the deal with hardener? Do you have to use it sparingly? The reason I ask is because I was shooting some bent worms for flick shake'n and oh man I could barely stir the plastic. I did use ~1/4 of a cup to 1 3/4 cup of plastic. Big mistake? I eventually got the consistency I was looking for but I had to add a ton of softener and re-heat the plastic many times over. Thanks, ScottyMac
  22. Thanks all, I'll check them out.
