Is anyone aware of a supplier of Saltwater grade unpainted lure bodies. Im interested in offshore type stuff... so at a minimum would need to be thru wire and larger baits.
I use just a standard hard resin (sinks all by itself) with no micro balloons (again keep in mind that i want a really fast sink so that even when trolling i will get somewhere near 20 feet deep.) As an example in this bait, total weight is approximately 80g with 25g of that being lead running along the edge of the "axe" so to speak, this provides a very fast sinking bait that will still run true up to a quite fast retrieve.
Cant help much in regards to how much ballast as the baits of this type i make are made from 2 part resins. But with those i have ended up going with ballast at approx 30% of total weight with it being a low and as forward as possible. With that said those baits are designed to be very fast sinking and want to stay down as i use them on the open ocean for tuna & other pelagics. I think you need to decide what and how you plan for the bait to be used and weight it accordingly. In any case I'm sure they will look great when finished!
It runs very nicely, total weight is 85 grams. The action reminds me strongly of how Rattle Traps run. I actually wanted something akin to a rattle trap which could stand up to large (100+ lb) tuna. Now to see how it does.
Here are links to a couple of the lures i have put up in the gallery. My painting is still a little rough but it's getting better every day!

Thank you everyone who provided feedback on this subject.
After discussion here and in other area's,I doubt my idea's merit patenting, so am going to push them quickly to market, along with trademarking the names used for them. I will post some sample picture here shortly.
That's good to hear, so a dated ebay listing should meet all the stipulations that are of importance (verified by a third party (ebay) concise, detailed, with dates etc.)
This would be the scenario which concerns me, I have no concerns with competing with others once i have my products out. But I am concerned about another company taking my ideas and then i have my ideas taken from me.
Thanks for the additional feedback.
So the consensus seems to be that attempting to patent is basically a waste of time and money.... That's a bit surprising i suppose, but actually simplifies things a good bit.
Thank you
