  1. I just ordered the stuff so we shall see!
  2. Ok, so I lied! Looks like the nail gel coats are UV cured. I figure I can just dip a fresh buck tail in SolarEZ gloss to get the smooth base coat, then proceed with the rest and finish with a last coat of SolarEZ. Just ordered what I need, so I'll keep you all posted!
  3. Ok, I promise last thing on this nail polish stuff. It looks like the deal is that you paint a gel coat first, pretty sure this is to get a completely smooth surface. Next comes a black or white base coat, followed by the chrome, then clear coat. The holographic powder can be added to the clear coat. Makes sense if you want to get a mirror finish.
  4. One gallon of the holographic for ten bucks. https://www.amazon.com/Sparkly-Chameleon-Holographic-Rainbow-Irregular/dp/B0722RX2Z2/ref=sr_1_2_s_it?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1513135476&sr=1-2&keywords=Laser+Chameleon+Rainbow+Silver
  5. This stuff is holographic powder. I think mixed into the clear coat and applied on top of chrome would be like fishing with jewels. https://www.amazon.com/PhantomSky-Glitter-Decorations-Manicure-Accessories/dp/B076YQLVGL/ref=pd_sbs_201_3?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B076YQLVGL&pd_rd_r=0Y3HG8Q5MTQRSRCCRF0V&pd_rd_w=xhksY&pd_rd_wg=JpO4K&psc=1&refRID=0Y3HG8Q5MTQRSRCCRF0V
  6. Stuff comes in amazing colors, too. https://www.amazon.com/Matoen-Colors-Glitter-Shinning-Pigment/dp/B06XFBH8FL/ref=sr_1_5?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1513133757&sr=1-5&keywords=chrome+powder+coat
  7. I found this almost by accident. It's for fingernails, but it looks tailor made for lures. I think it would be especially good for lead jigs. The technique calls for applying a chrome powder, then a top coat of uv cure resin. How easy is that?! 39 cents with a dollar ninety nine shipping. https://www.amazon.com/Mirror-Powder-Effect-Pigment-XUANOU/dp/B075RS6Z4D/ref=sr_1_9?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1513133757&sr=1-9&keywords=chrome+powder+coat
  8. I just found this stuff: https://www.amazon.com/Mirror-Powder-Effect-Pigment-XUANOU/dp/B075RS6Z4D/ref=sr_1_9?s=arts-crafts&ie=UTF8&qid=1513133757&sr=1-9&keywords=chrome+powder+coat The recommended top coat is uv cure. Put this stuff on a newly cast shiny jig, and it should rock.
  9. Cadman, How do you keep from over/under heating when painting 4-5 colors? I have a mini sand blasting gun I use for my bucktails, and I've been wanting to try more than one color on a jig. I was thinking of building myself a painting jig where I hang the lures off a lazy susan style hanger. I'd rotate each jig over a mounted heat gun, just before powder coating it. I think for that to work, I would need a digital heat gun.
  10. Anglinarcher you'd only end up dying horribly in jail after poisoning yourself with the chemicals, just to be arrested by the DEC for running an illegal operation using environmentally deadly chemicals!
  11. Finally! That ornithology class in high school paid off!
  12. There's this: http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-extreme-chrome-bonded-powder.html?mrkgcl=764&mrkgadid={_mrkgadid}&rkg_id=h-3b4db8cccf30af47ed0df310b0b86c59_t-1512944697&product_id={product_id}&adpos={adposition}&creative={creative}&device={device}&matchtype={matchtype}&network={network}&SRCCODE=PLA00020&gclid=EAIaIQobChMImMexmL6A2AIVFoGzCh3buw51EAQYASABEgL_M_D_BwE Powder coat, and much cheaper.
  13. Hi Cadman,

I was reading a convo on powder coating. Fishon-son mentioned you have plans for a fluid bed that you might share. Would you mind PM'ing me with the plans?

  14. One of our local high school fishing clubs holds a fishing flea market every year. It's become so popular, they now have expanded to include the cafeteria across the hall. I have the contact info for the teacher who runs it, if you're interested in how something like that is coordinated.
  15. Interesting... https://www.allure.com/story/color-changing-hair-dye
  16. Jonnister sent me what I'm guessing are mallard secondary flight feathers and coverlets, and body feathers that are mostly black/white/grey barred. https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipOenu-8SD6wOR3wsuZs17KJ4iGf6xLpjT_NOF15
  17. Nice. The ones in the boxes look like sushi or bento box lunches!
  18. I usually build salt water flies and streamers. The mayfly build is a trade with jonister, and a test of my skills. My flies are usually for blue fish, stripers, and sometimes fluke.
  19. I'll give it my best shot.
  20. I think polar bear fur isn't even actually white. It's clear and scatters the whole spectrum so it looks white. So I would guess the quality you're after is that special sparkle you get from color transmitted by pure light vs reflected from pigment.
  21. You just got my little chihuahua in soo much trouble!
  22. LOL, I guess I'm not as loony as I thought!
  23. Hey Jonister, take a look at this and let me know what you think for a pattern for that fly I done promised ya! I like the wings a lot. Not sure I can pull it off, but might as well go all in!

    Dubbing

Ok, don't laugh! I have a kinda kooky idea. Has anyone tried using lint from the dryer for dubbing?
  25. I'd like to go the casting route, myself. It's way more time efficient, but doesn't seem anywhere near as fun as lathe work... Guess it really depends on how much volume I need to put out.
