  1. No need to be sorry that is normally how my timing works out lol
  2. I just got my first can of KBS to try out this morning. If only you post on Friday lol
  3. @TootsMalone thanks that is definitely helpful information I have never caught gar but I bet they would be comparable to the damage pike do
  4. So after have a power outage and have a batch of lures wrecked using Etex/turner I decided to try a new top coat wanted to try a UV but one of the joys of being in western Canada is lack of availability, brutal shipping and duty if ordering from the US make things too expensive. So that failed to be an option found a local supplier for KBS so giving that a try anyone who uses this for pike lures how many coats do you use? what is the time frame between coats?
  5. Looks like you need to make sure your paint is good and dry or you have got dust or oils on your lure before applying epoxy if you are trying to go to thin of a coat and not cover the whole lure that will do it too. It’s not too much epoxy because that results in the lure getting full coverage but you will often have lots of bubbles these are the 3 mistakes I made in the past that gave me clear coats that looked just like your pic make sure your paint is dry and clean your lure before your clear coat. Apply a moderate coat put them on the turner give them a little time to level out. Look them over brush the coat to smooth out any voids or add if needed. Walk away and cross your fingers That is my take on what I see
  6. Actually I live in Canada and built the paddler to try on pike. I seen the action of these lures and decided to build one Murray cod in Australia would be an awesome fishing trip I hope to do one day
  7. That’s the advantage of TU sometimes options to a problem from a different train of thought can be handy Now you just need to build one and catch a big fish on it lol
  8. Now that is what lure making to me is about designing something that fits your vision of what you want a lure to do. Congrats I hope it treats you well and the fish cooperate You mentioned you want legs. Just an idea you might want to try that popped in my head. You could always take strands of skirt material thread it through the body with a needle. A dab of glue shot into the body after to keep them in place and trim to length just a thought there is no lack of size and color options for material
  9. Thanks bob now it’s a matter of availability and shipping which is a headache for me all the time it will definitely be multiple coats for me to get durability for pike teeth and hook rash on trolling baits for lakers. From what you described it should work it will just be a matter of if I need to do more layers or not
  10. They look nice and clear with lots of gloss
  11. @BobP could you post a pic of the lure you top coat with the Let’s resin brand UV it looks like it could be a cost effective option worth trying
  12. After having my last batch of lures end up with a sagged clear coat do to a power outage the UV resin is becoming more attractive. Etex works good against pike teeth and most times I have no issues but when you have a good size batch of lures wrecked at the final stage it’s frustrating Anyone test I’ve resin against pike or musky yet?
  13. Nice work definitely interesting I would have to fish it
  14. If you want you could always forget all the judging and just declare me the winner
  15. Hillbilly voodoo

    spy bait

Thanks it looks better in person the glare in the pic does not help
  16. Some nice stuff shows up for sure
  17. Createx airbrush paint is a common paint for lures. This is why I use but there is other options KBS diamond coat and envirotex (etex)are two common clear coats both have advantages and disadvantages in my opinion. I use Etex but I build mostly pike and lake trout lures Iwata makes good airbrushes. Personally I use a neo but there is higher end models Do a search of the forum and you will find tons of information on this subject as well
  18. I have a commercial tackle maker that works round nose pliers work a nail in a board and two pairs of pliers works too
  19. If you can’t get a musky to bite it send it to me. I will send it to the depths where a laker will eat it looks good
  20. You are from before my time but welcome back
  21. Hey it’s the thought that counts
  22. I wish I had open water here even the rivers are still frozen. Bloody winter won’t let go
  23. He means resin for pouring lure bodies not epoxy clear coat
  24. You can buy coils of lead that you can just cut to length. It is commonly used from salmon and steelhead fishing in the northwest.
