I love this design. I agree that red hooks would have blended into the design. Great work!

A lot more convenient, if you have a printer! I've been "designing" lures with Sketchup. I can output a file to print, one of these days when I get a printer...
  3. Searched for "Tulle" at Joanne's Fabrics. Didn't find that stuff, but did find netting for painting scales. In case anyone is looking. http://www.joann.com/matte-net-fabric-72in-nude/15279649.html#q=tulle&prefn1=prod_type&sz=36&start=145&prefv1=Product
  4. You can just lower the pressure on the compressor, until your airbrush starts to spit out bigger drops, instead of atomizing the paint. Might take a little experimenting to get the right size stipple. Works with my Badger, anyway!
  5. That's a freakin' great idea! I think I am going to have to build a version of this thing...
  6. Don't use these, but they've been around for a bit. https://www.barlowstackle.com/JigSkinz-ProSkinz-C348.aspx https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-PACK-OF-JIGSKINZ-SHRINK-WRAP-FOR-YOUR-LURES-/322389447369

That's pretty cool. Those are stencils for painting the pattern?
  8. A lathe would make it really easy to drill the through wire, otherwise it's hit and miss using a hand drill. Either way, you want to drill in from both ends and meeting in the middle, rather than try drilling straight through. Once you have the center drilled out, you can build an open topped box with two holes drilled near the top edge on either end. Slide a wire through one hole, then the bait, and through the other hole in the box. Make sure the bait is positioned correctly and use a bit of hot glue to make sure it doesn't move. Fill the box with plaster to half way up the lure. When the plaster cures and you remove the lure, you will have a hollow you can use to hold your lures and drill the hole for your belly weight using a drill press. If you only have a hand drill it'd be damn near impossible without building some kind of jig.
  9. Now that you mention it-Sketchup is a free drawing program that can put out .dxl files for 3-D printing. Might be possible to use it to draw a stencil, and send it to a 3-D service to get printed...
  10. Thanks. I had a light in there too, needed the extra heat. Plus, it turns out to be convenient to gently heat the epoxy bottles before hand.
  11. Them is nice. Look like Gobstoppers!
  12. I would try it, but I can't grow a beard!
  13. Now you gone and done it. I need to dust off all my fishing gear, get in my car, and leave you in the dust on the way to the beach.
  14. I used it to dust the noses of the fish, thereby annoying them and getting them to bite.
  15. I've used material from those multicolor dust mops they sell at dollar stores, the ones that look like a long fluffy tail.
  16. I know the mylar you're talking about. I use that stuff to make tetrahedral kites, never thought of putting it on a lure.
  17. This site has some more info, like the stuff can be used in an airbrush! "This new product allows you to powder coat nontraditional substrates such as wood, plastic, ceramics, foam, etc. Using this product, you can also easily apply graphics and other custom designs or artwork via powder coat in a precise and detailed manner. This product offers ultimate versatility for powder coating as the powder solution can be sprayed on with an airbrush, HVLP gun, or brushed on like a normal liquid paint and then cured like a traditional powder coat leaving a very durable and smooth finish behind." https://www.powderbuythepound.com/liquid_2_powder_-1_pint.html
  18. Here's yet another twist to this here discussion. I was researching powder coating techniques for my bucktails, and I ran across this: It would work for wood lures, and any material that can take the curing heat. Now, I wonder what powder coat golds and silvers would look like...
  19. Super Ron, even if you use the clear heat shrink?
  20. Thanks, KevinHanses. I may need that link in future.
  21. Been a few months, but maybe this will help. You know those clear plastic things you can get at the office supply store, to put your school report it? If they're the right kind of plastic, you could use a heat gun to soften it and make a stencil. Put the bait in a bed of Sculpy up to the mold line, lay the plastic on top, and gently heat it so it slumps over the bait. Flip the bait and repeat for the other side...
  22. Anglin. About those resin baits-PM me. I've been thinking of switching to resin lately, sure would like to talk to someone with experience.
