  1. Yeah, the fumes problem is why I went with water based paints. Plus, I absolutely hate clean up with solvent paints. I have a particularly sensitive sense of smell, can't even stand perfumes and fragrances most of the time.
  2. I guess this is taking a new turn, but I'm really interested in what you're saying. I use Aztek colors by Badger. I don't think I have any issues as far as the colors reaching full potential-but now I'm curious. Maybe I'm using them to full effect, maybe not. I start off by dipping each lure twice in Bull's Eye 123 primer, and sand flat with 220 grit. It usually takes two coats of Aztek to get a nice, solid background color. The primer is left bare if I want a white belly, so less spraying there. I use a net to get the scale pattern. Metallics and pearls are translucent, so how many coats depends on what I'm trying to do. I may spray a light scale pattern over a dark background, in that case-I'd spray opaque white before the light/translucent color. The bare colors don't really come alive until after the epoxy goes on. I use a home made jig to paint the same pattern ten at a time to cut down on color changes. I make it a point to look around and ask questions when I sell at shows, so far I'm satisfied I have a good process. You never know though, I try to keep the door open.
  3. KevenHanses, I'm confused! I use water based airbrush paints, and they dry just about instantly. None of them are even close to silver or gold leaf, though. That's why I tested out the nail products.
  4. I'm used to fishing beaches and bays from shore or kayak. With the exception of blackfish, I don't really deal much with snaggy bottoms. I think your fish over there are just being inconsiderate!
  5. Hillbilly, what do you catch on your streamers?
  6. I usually do plugs, bucktails, and simple salt water teaser flies. Saw these patterns online and had to try them.
  7. Cadman, Fifty jigs?! To think I was complaining of losing six rigs while black fishing!
  8. Couldn't find an appropriate category in the gallery. Try this: https://postimg.org/image/wmifuce8p/

Lazy Susan jig for painting scale pattern on lures.
  10. I have to agree with you about the leaf. The powder is good for smaller areas. It's very sensitive to surface conditions. I ran an experiment on my own nails. One nail I used a perfect base coat of Solarez, the other nail I left it a little rough. The good base coat turned out a perfect mirror shine. The other had beautiful shine, with the flaws in the base coat showing through the color. No-I do not have pictures, so don't even ask.
  11. Well, just in case... https://postimg.org/gallery/h06pbusa/
  12. Thanks, I'll have to try something else.
  13. MonteSS is there a problem with the links to Google pics? Supposed to be able to share the pics...
  14. Oop sorry wrong post to wrong discussion...
  15. ddl a simple "I don't see a photo:, would have sufficed. The link is to google pics, supposed to be able to share photos. Simply posting photos to this site got me limited out and the system refused to accept any more. What do you see when you click on the link?
  16. Added another pic. I wanted to see if I could get multiple colors on a jig, without adding layers. The effect is subtle, but it's there. Almost like airbrushing. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipPCdTOiMy3_Lg_nfPD5l8cUm8pJSC-3uYJzT69f
  17. Cadman, I'm not only man enough to fish pink, it's one of my go to colors! Funny story-about seven or eight years ago, I was just starting out fishing. One day I was watching the fisherman next to me catch striper after striper, while I came up empty. The difference was he using a teaser, and I had forgotten to bring any. When I left the beach I went to my local bait shop and bought a few. I bought a bright pink teaser on the theory that it would be very visible. Next day at the beach I had to weather some ribbing about my pink teaser-until I started pulling in stripers one after another. I went back to the bait shop a few days later, the owner asked me if I had been on the beach fishing the pink teaser. Turns out he'd had a run on the pinks, and he'd heard about how many fish I'd caught! Been using pink for stripers, weaks, and fluke, ever since...
  18. Better photo, no flash. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipND2gfReETRBb6CdMZq0z-UG78tBDOnjgNYSx9A
  19. Anglinarcher you rock! I couldn't wait to try burnishing, so I just did two more. First layer Solarez, second layer powder, third layer Solarez. Burnished it like you said. Bingo! https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipPg7pcnGCURDARBF-d6pVgeRg_44cSIBGoS2pVq
  20. I didn't see that, but I did hit on it by the time I tried the red one. I just didn't hit on it early enough to maybe minimize the layers. In my particular application, I want the primary coat of Solarez to be as thin as possible. Then powder and burnish, and one last coat of Solarez. I'll try again tomorrow and post result.
  21. I paint mine before installing the wire. When I paint the base color I just use a 1/8" metal rod. I built a custom jig to paint the scale pattern for ten lures at a time. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMMDBjW-P-EbxIqEFi7GdO2GAvVH7ec23L3S_Dz
