  1. Thanks for all of your responses. I painted a couple of baits this evening and used a disposable mask. It didn’t get in the way and was probably a good thing since I’ve had a annoying cough for the past two weeks. I’ll probably continue to do that even though it looks really dorky.
  2. What are thoughts on the necessity of either a paint booth/hood or a respirator when spraying Creatx water based paint? I’ve noticed that I don’t see them in any how-too YouTube videos.
  3. What pressure do you use to effectively remove paint without damaging the plastic?
  4. Hughesy, what kind of blaster are you using to do your soda blasting? I have not sand/soda blasted before but it sounds like a great way to prep baits for recycling.
  5. Has anyone tried thinning down 30 minute epoxy wth denatured alcohol? I am getting great finishes with 30 minute epoxy - hard, clear and durable, however a little thick for some baits. I’ve done some Predator Baits DT-6s and they wind up being almost neutrally bouyant. Also a couple of the Predator Baits 3 inch poppers - they float but are little sluggish as in maybe too low in the water. On the bright side, a Predator Bait S-KO runs great and caught a almost six pound bass yesterday.
  6. Thanks, Anglinarcher. I did find one similar to the Boy Howdy at Shelt Fishing Tackle. It is Listed as 'Shelt's new quality tractors with 2 props.' The only thing is that the length of the body is given as 90mm (or about 3.5 inches). A Boy Howdy or a similar Rapala X-Rap Prop is 4.5 to 5 inches long. I've emailed Shelt's to see if it is an error or if they are planning to do a larger bait. A 3.5 inch prop bait seems kind of wimpy to me.
  7. Does anyone know where to get Boy Howdy lure blanks? I love the bait, but the factory finish doesn’t hold up on some colors. In my first efforts at lure painting, I sanded some down and repainted them. They came out great and worked catching three nice bass on a tough day. The sanding down is a pain.
