  1. Nice work! This is really cool.
  2. What's it carved from? This thing looks really cool.
  3. Nice! great to see the finished product. This started quite a discussion, and the finish you came up with looks great!
  4. 10 piece Tiger Salamander. The body is oak and the tail and head are poplar. Each leg is tipped with a barb that can serve as a plastic keeper. Hook hangers (2 on the belly), line tie, and hinges are twisted stainless steel wire.
  5. Anyone ever use the Eagle Claw split rings? I know they sell them at Wal-Mart, and they're pretty cheap, but that's pretty concerning...
  6. I bet color diffusion principles make a big difference. I'll have to look up more info on that! I've been wondering which colors stay in the visible range best.
  7. Makes sense! Most of the water here in IL where I fish is pretty stained, so right now I'm focusing on browns or really bright contrasting colors. My main fishing goal this year is to catch a muskie out of a local river on one of my baits...granted I've never caught one on anyone's baits, so it's pretty ambitious. Before my next trip north I'll have to make something with more of a pike green pattern.
  8. Right on! The shop teacher in the school where I work has a 3D printer and I've thought about experimenting with it. I'm not sure why, but I've never really felt very confident with greens, despite fishing where there are a lot of perch. Do you fish mostly pike? My folks have a vacation home up in western Ontario, and I used to fish up there every summer. Fishing up there is WAAAAAAAAAAAY better than down here in Illinois. Most of the fish people catch down here could be used as bait up there...
  9. Glad to see you have some kleenex...the real question is do you have any toilet paper? In a couple days we'll be using paper towels. Great lures though, I really like the orange/yellow/black one on the right! ~stay healthy!

    Those gills really pop!
  12. These look great! What clear-coat do you use? Are these lures you made, or do you paint over blanks? These are really cool craw patterns!
  13. I've got an old bass-o-reno style bait I made with my grandpa many years ago. It's probably 2 inches long and was made using screw eyes. They eyes weren't epoxied in, and may not even have been super-glued in. I haven't fished with it a ton, as my grandpa is gone now so it's got more sentimental value than anything else, but there was one day my buddies were really smashing small northern pike on poppers. I didn't have any in my box, but figured out if I looped the wire around the front hook, the lure fished just like a popper (not how I would handle the situation now, but that's beside the point). I caught 23 pike that day, most between 1 and 3 pounds. No issues with the screw eyes at all.

    Glide Bait 3.jpg

Rattle can finish (I went on a pink kick). This one is about 7 inches. It sinks slow and level, but I have yet to put it in the water. I screwed up on this one, and assembled it before painting and clear coating it, so I've got some clean-up work to do on the joints.

    Jerk Bait.jpg

Rattle can finish (I went on a pink kick). Mini-jerk bait, right about 2 3/4 inches.

Rattle can finish (I went on a pink kick). I've still got to assemble the joint on this one. It sinks slow and level, but I have yet to put it in the water.
