  1. I've only used two part epoxy and now a UV resin but I know people who swear by KBS Diamond clearcoat. No experience myself.
  2. Solarez works great, it's just that it stinks thus I wonder about it's safety. And... opening and closing it over time with cause it to thicken. It is such a quick hardening resin that the ambient light over time will make it get thick. The resins I use take about 10-30 minutes depending on the thickness.
  3. Looks like it must attach to the prop end. I'd think you'd need a swivel though. And does the prop spin good without a bead between the prop and the spoon?
  4. I've been over at the Bass Resource and this site was recommended... I'll bet a lot of you frequent both places huh? It's Feb 2020 and I started making hard baits a couple of months ago. I've only made a half dozen but I'm having fun. I've got a very well equipped wood shop that I've done lots of furniture making and other stuff in. The bait making is nice in that they're not heavy like dressers and beds. I've got a youtube channel that I started simply to show my process... It's not monetary, just sort of a hobby. Take a look if you want. I hope I entered the link right.... Anyway, Looks like a good site here and I'll frequent it to digitally pick brains for info and see what everyone is up to. Thanks moderators for making this possible.
  5. After the white prime coat I use a UV sealer. It tends to nicely smooth out any imperfections before painting. Then I finish off with 1-2 more coats. I don't use Solarez for a few reasons. I use the slower curing resin like alumi-uv or it's chinese knockoffs.
  6. I tried a bunch of stuff.... Now, I just hold it in my hand and use a retractable razor knife and then coarse sandpaper. Fastest for me.
  7. I just joined... I just started making lures a couple of months back and have only made 5 of them so my 2 cents is still a bit newbie... I made a UV tank out of nail dryers using a chinese uv resin from amazon. Like Alumilite-uv it takes 20-30 minutes to completely cure a hard bait. It's solid when it's done. It has a timer connected to it. I use a coating after the white primer coat. It tends to smooth the bait, and I paint on that. Then I finish with one or two coats as a final coating It was mentioned about a lure turner, and I do have one when I used to do epoxy finishes. I find that the UV resin sets up fairly fast when it hits the light so just hanging the lure is fine. A video of my Uv light chamber build can be seen here. Solarez, another type of UV coating hardens super fast but it stinks and will get thick in the can just from being exposed to ambient light while opening the bottle. Alumi UV is good stuff. It's recently been on perpetual backorder so I've been using a chinese knockoff from Amazon and I find that it's not only less expensive, but seems to work really good. The video for the making of my latest lure is here... Along with others..
