Try casting the lure more parallel to the water. Don't cast it in a high arc as it will freefall, making it more likely to tumble and foul. Also, the moment the lure hits the water, give the rod tip a little foreward flick to make sure the lure is running eyelet first. This is especially important in faster current. It's work great.
