  3. So what are the advantages of a bobbin in tying bass jigs. I dont use them for the simple fact they get in the way of tying period. when your using regular skirted jigs in silicone or round rubber or even bucktail. I pour and build 1000s of custom jigs a year for my customers and have been doing it since 1977. My business was always done well on all the baits I build. If it doesn't work for you then add a bobbin and glue. Ill pass.
  4. ⁰⁰When im tying bucktail/round rubber combo jigs or bucktail/silicone jigs the heads I pour are modified to except the bucktail so I only wrap thread three time and loop lock in place the and the modification of the head collar lock the bucktail down. Then I wrap the round rubber or silicone skirt material in place and the use three half hitch knots. I tie several types of bucktail jigs and i use different accents when tying. Failure is less than 1/2% in all the jigs spinnerbaits buzzbaits and blade baits.
  5. This is all you need to tie jigs. Coat and Clark Upholstery thread 137 mill 150 yard spools scissors Razor blade for trimming Umbrella skirt tag ends ( silicone skirts ) do not use any type of glue to secure your knots. That is forbidden. Like I said 44 years in this business I tend to know what im talking about.
  6. 44 years of tying custom jigs ive never use one. They dont save you thread and they just get in the way.
  7. It not hard too have custom aluminum molds made. I have several custom molds. I have two open eye blade bait molds in 3/8oz. & 1/2oz. And two spinnerbait molds in 3/8oz. & 1/2oz. And two buzz bait molds in 3/8oz & 1/2oz. All custom made. There not that hard to have built. If your serious about building custom baits you'll have them made no matter what it cost. The viper head is a new addition to the custom molds I already have.
  8. I use twin tail yamamoto 4" or 5" grubs I have problem with the grubs slipping down on the viper head. They work just fine for me.They a a great jig for heavy structure. Rock brush piles trees isolated rock and brush mixed together.
  9. The mold was design for buck tail jigs and pork trailers uncle josh and the perverse owner of the mold had formula for making his own pork trailers.
  10. I own the mold now it is a custom built aluminum mold from 1971 it was gifted to me from a gentlemen from southern ca. He had it custom built back then.
  11. If you want to match the color Go to Skirtsplus fishing Nature Edge Fish hunter green / Blue Interference NE 721
  12. Off the top of my head if I remember correctly the color number is 78
  13. When I tie bucktail I like using either silicone skirt material or round rubber in fine or regular grade and use bucktail as and accent in different colors. I like building and tying finesse jigs one ive been building 39 year now is Lions collar jig in all type of head design I just added the viper head the mold has been around since 1971. I acquired it from a gentlemen from southern ca. That has several very large bass from southern ca lakes back in the 70s & 80s using bucktail jigs. Lions collar brown/orange buck tail
  14. If you wrap them like shown and and you add 3 half hitch knots the skirts will never come apart or slip or fail or rotate on the jig collar . On all your jigs spinnerbaits buzzbaits or blade baits you tie I just dont see it doing anything good even when tying bucktail.
  15. Did I mention dont use glue on the thread ever.
  16. On the skirt umbrellas that looks like you would run 1 or 2 skirts through a regular skirt collar then slip that skirt collar over the umbrella collar push it forward for the flare. im sure they make some kind of tool for this.
  17. You can tie these skirts on spinnerbaits buzzbaits and blade baits and all types of jig heads
  18. If you have questions feel free to ask.
