  1. barrybait

    20160625 203605[1]

Carved this bait from basswood. Modeled similar to Lucky Craft BDS3. Twisted wire hook hangar thru belly weight. Long twisted wire hangars for line tie and rear hangar. Not thru wired. Each hangar secured with D2T. I'm not worried about thru wiring with bass wood but I do my hangar drill holes all the way thru, fill the entire hole up with D2T then D2T my twisted wire and insert. Home made circuit board lip from LPO circuit board sheet. I mark them out with a square, scribe, cut with band saw, then finish sand to the lines with a 1" belt sander. These are providing good action Createx paint same pattern as previous post. D2T'd. Action, compared to BDS3, it is a little wider wobble, a little slower and heavier. Haven't fished it yet.
  2. I recently purchased a workbench wood lathe from harbor freight and so far its been treating me pretty well. I've been researching turning plugs for quite sometime now, and today I finally turned my first two lures. The top lure was supposed to imitate a Hula Popper, and the bottom is going to be a pencil popper. The Hula Popper is made from basswood and the pencil popper is made from eastern red cedar. Any critiques would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone could provide some info on how to cut the angle for the pencil popper mouth I'd also appreciate that. Thanks in advance!
  3. Hello guys. I mostly make resin plastic lures cause I want to make detailed lures with gills, mouth and scales. But I started to wonder how guys like Melosh fishing lures makes his detailed wood lures. He seals the wood with something without covering up all the details. I only got Epoxy clear coat like Envirotex and so on and that would cover up all the details before I can start to paint the lures. I need something that sucks into the wood 100%. Grain filler? oil? how do I do it? I upload a photo of one of my resin plastic lures so you get an idea on how I want to make my wood lures to look like. Hope you understand what I mean. I'm from Sweden and not that great at english hehe.
  4. This is one of my favorites that I have carved. I am inspired by antique handmade lures and baits. Body is hand-carved basswood with felt ears and leather tail.
