New to making my own soft plastics and have not been able to find this particular issue discussed (though I did not dig deep). My capsule oring gets coated with plastic and sucked back into the injector tube. What am I doing wrong? Obviously, I then have to waste time removing all the stuck plastic. I've been lubing both with worm oil and preheating the injector and molds prior to shooting. No problem with the plunger oring. Any helpful hints, tricks, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thx PVL

Hey everyone, this is my first post here but I haven't been making Baits long. A little over a year probably. But I have 3 kids at home and I look at this as something fun to do and it helps pay bills and put food on the table. However, the problem I am having is in only making enough money to buy the supplies I need such as plastic, glitter, etc. each month. So I'm only breaking even. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on marketing, and getting the name out there so I can sell more baits. They are quality baits and people who buy are usually repeat customers but I'm not turning a decent profit. Thanks in advance!

I’ve been doing research on making my own soft plastics and can’t seem to find if I need softener or not. I haven’t ordered anything yet so is there anything else I need besides plastisol, bait color, and maybe scents or glitter? If you would like to help me and just tell me if I need it or not and the ratios it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey folks, I am having an issue with my chartreuse-dyed plastisol getting darker as I reheat it in the microwave several time. Here's the rundown: I start of with DO-IT plastisol and dye it with DO-IT 2X chartreuse dye. I then pop it in the microwave until phase change...it looks great! I inject my first rounds of lures and they turn out perfectly. As the plastisol cools in the Pyrex, I have to reheat to keep it from becoming to viscous for the injector to suck up. As I reheat the plastisol, no matter how careful I am with the temps, I always have the problem of the chartreuse darkening over time. It never truly burns, but the just doesn't have that chartreuse pop like the first couple shots had. I've tried adding DO-IT plastisol stabilizer but I don't think that does anything. The only thing I can do to help mitigate the issue is keep adding more dye, which helps, but does't do the whole trick. I was wondering if anyone has had this same issue and found a way to fix it? Is it the brand of plastisol I'm using? Is it simply the nature of a dynamic heating source like a microwave that is too hard to control? I would love to fix this issue if at all possible. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ya'll! Tight Lines

Where can I get lure packaging mass produced from? The ones I have now are printed with my logo and what not but the company I bought it from previously went out of business. Any direct companies that anyone knows of? I have the design and everything just need it in mass rather than just a few.

Hey guys, I figured this would be the perfect place for me to reach out to you guys who make soft plastic baits. I am a senior Industrial Design student at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA conducting research for my senior thesis project. My goal is to research the methods of the at-home (soft plastic) lure maker in an attempt to make the process safer and more efficient in the home workspace. Aside from being a student, I am also the product designer for Optimum Baits and a freelance designer for several other lure companies. While I do have a prototyping space of my own, all of the actual production of the designs are carried out at a large scale. This does not provide me with much insight for my project. From what I have seen in this group, there are some extremely gifted and creative people in here. Any of your input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time. https://goo.gl/forms/y7DImLhsLPS4pqgV2

Hi all....new to soft plastics. I ice fish, kayak fish, fly fish, and tie flies. This is the next logical step for me. Building rods hasn't really interested me yet. I've started with the Do-it $200 starter kit plus some additional molds, glitters, and my favorite color Purple. I picked up a 900W microwave at Wally World and have a well ventilated work area in my garage. I should be pouring by the weekend. Thank you for all your great info here....be safe! Scott

So I've been making lures for about a year now and finally got arou to making a Muskie lure. It's based off of the large bulldawg and medusa style baits just with a slimmer profile. This is literally the first pour of my mold so it's still missing fins and I didn't put a harness in it. Let me know what you guys think!

Hey Guys, First off, new member here. Been using this site as a great resource for planning the launch of a lure company! I wanted to ask for some feedback on spin casting vs. injection molding for producing soft plastics. What are the pros and cons of each? If our company is successful and we start cranking out large quantities, we will for sure be doing injection molding. But in looking for a more affordable option to get our product to market we came across spin casting. It seems like a possible alternative at least in the early days when we are testing products to see if they even sell. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!
