Javelin
Does anyone have any luck using wheel weights in their Hot Pot 2? I do good using pure lead but when I add wheel weights to the mix, I get alot of incomplete pours. Maybe I'm not waiting long enough after the weights melt for the mix to heat up more. tailchaser
Are you melting the weights in another pot first and getting the impurities out?? i use them and have no trouble.. but, i melt them down and pour into ingots before i put them in my Hot Pot....also, i crank it up to the highest heat setting.. i dont know if this matters, but it seems to work... Javelin
I melted them down in a cast iron pot then skimmed off the clips and stuff on the top. Then I put them in corn muffin ingots.Might need to get some more of the impurities out.
HookUp
Tailchaser hit the nail on the head. Also, if your hooks are to thick, the lead will not fill in the collars.
Javelin
Well, after it melts down, do you need to wait 10 or 15 minutes for the HOt Pot to reach it's full temperature?
Javelin
I'm using a number 4 Mustad hook on a 3/8 oz head.
Javelin
Using the pure lead, it does just fine, but with the wheel weights, it doesn't always cover the collar area
Gloomisman
I had this same problem with mine. My best solution is I bought a pro pot bottom pour by lee. Some things I tried that helped. very lightly Polish the pour spout to debri doesnt clutter up on it. Make sure all surface crud is away from the pour spout sides. I typically used a big screw driver or small putty knife for this before every couple pours or when crud builds up again.
basskat
It sounds as if your mold is cold. Try making a few pours without hooks to heat the mold up. This is a common problem when using any method to pour.
