tubinator
I have a spare electric kiln that measures 14x14x14 ID. It is connected to a computerized temperature controller. Will this work for melting the rubber? The kiln is vented with an exhaust fan to the outside. Can I use aluminum cans to melt the rubber in? Vodkaman
What kind of rubber are you talking about? Most rubber discussed here at TU is RTV, room temperature vulcanised rubber. It is my understanding that vulcanised rubber does not melt. I am not an expert and have not used the stuff before, so I will be interested what others have to say on this subject. I did ask the question once before, could RTV be re-used, but I did not get an answer.
tubinator
Sorry, I have been making molds for the last few days so rubber was on my mind. What I meant to say was "Plastic" Like for pouring into molds or dipping tubes. As far as reusing rtv rubber or LMR (liquid mold rubber) I am pretty sure that once it has cured it can not be reused. Unless of course you want to use them as door stops.
Vodkaman
Thank's for clearing that one up for me.
Tubeman
You can reused RTV silicone. Just cut it up in to small pieces and add it to fresh silicone when pouring a mold. It comes out perfect everytime with no seams or delamination. As long as the new silicone covers the old chunks, it works fine
