basscatcher89
Ok I am new to painting spinnerbaits, and am currently having a problem with putting a design on a smaller bait. I use testors model spray paint and i put my base color down and let it dry atleast a day. Then i try to mask with tape so that i can put a pattern over the base. When i do this the tape pulls the paint up with it. I am curious as to how you guys mask patterns off to paint on your spinner baits. I am willing to change paints if you guys have a better suggestion for a spray paint i can use. I am on a budget so something that can be found at farm and fleet or walmart would be awesome. clamboni
With an airbrush......I suppose you could do this with rattle cans, but you'll waste way more paint than you don't, and you'll need a perfect touch. Then you have to worry about how big the droplets are. Tough to get it right with rattle cans. When I want a precise, sharp border between two colors, I just cut a piece from a 12-pack box tot he shape I need and lay it against the part I don't want painted. Hold it right up against it with your hand, jsut make sure your paint is dry. As long as it's not tacky anymore you won't have a problem. dampeoples
Either freehand your pattern, or cut a stencil, lay it over the dried basecoat, and rock on
Vodkaman
You could reduce the stickiness of the tape by dabbing your tee shirt a couple of times to pick up some fluff. Has anyone tried masking with hot candle wax? Dissolve away in hot water when finished. Maybe too time consuming, just a thought.
