rico.29 Posted October 27, 2007 Report Share Posted October 27, 2007 Hi, as i'm about to buit my first paddletail, i would like to know what kind of cup di you use to dip paddletail knife, with the microwave method. i have pyrex cup but they are too large and i would have to heat too much plastic at once. so what's your experience? Tubeman Posted October 27, 2007 Report Share Posted October 27, 2007 Rico, thats the biggest problem with vertical dipping..you need at least 1 inch more depth than the length of your bait. To make the best use of the plastic try to attach 3-5 dippers on a small chunk of wood instead of doing one at a time. You might be able to horizintally dip these, but I think the tail would pose a problem. As for the glass, perhaps a tall beaker as long as its safe for microwaving. At first I thought one of the 16oz beer cans (1 of many) might work but after cutting it thought it was too thin and did not want to get plastic all over my hand (again!). came in the house this morning and saw a can of aparagus in the kitchen cabinet, measured it, opened it, and just what I need. Best of all I got my container to dip in and wife going to cook steak tonight since that's the only thing she cooks with aparagus. Any tall alum can will work, it has its draw backs though. for one if you don't put it on a pancake griddle the plastic will cool off very fast. if you put it on the stove make sure you put a pan down first to distribute the element or flame evenly so it doesnt burn the metal can. set the metal can on the pan and it wont burn the bottom. However heat your plastic in the microwave first as its faster and easier to keep plastic warm then to start from scratch the other thing you can use is a paint sprayer can, liek the binks #7 copy paint guns they sell for dirt cheap at swap meets..
