BigTimeBuzzer
I have used either or both together. I am kinda partial to the fox family myself. I can work with craft hair and it is easy to come by, but if I had to pick, I would choose FOX HANDS DOWN. But then again, IT"S HARD TO BEAT A WELL TIED FEATHER OFFERING!!!!!!! I have to deliver a bunch tomorrow. They started early this year....
stream stalker
I have tied and sold float n fly jigs. Craft hair is tough to beat for the action and fluff the hair possesses at rest in the water. I have tied some with Arctic Fox hair and they are probably the closest thing to craft hair. stream stalker
Here are a couple of mine tied with craft hair and a little tinsel
stream stalker
sorry the picture is a little blurry. Also, if you look close on these jigs, there is chenille wrapped on the shaft of the hook. I prefer the chennile as it gives the jig a little "body" appearance. stream stalker
Oh, you are lucky man. fishing smallmouth heaven. I wish I was you. I am sure my jigs would fool them to some respect on those lakes as well. Sure wish I could try them down there this winter.
BigTimeBuzzer
If I did this right you should be able to see some of the FnF's that I make. Some are from various hairs and furs and the others are made from mallard feathers. I added some sparkle here and there to catch the light. These are proven fish catchers. We almost broke the 7.lb mark last year but it still seems to dodge us..... maybe this will be the year....

BigTimeBuzzer
They say that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, so feel free. I started these from a basis pattern that I had seen and made them my own through TWEEKIN"..... . I can never leave well enough alone, I guess that is why the phone always rings when the weather starts to cool down.... .....Good Luck.. BigTimeBuzzer
I can't wait to see your efforts. I just finished pouring some different hook styles to try in my next patch. I poured some WIDE GAP needle sharp jobs that I know are going to be a REAL HOOT to tie. Those needle hooks are great fish catchers but they are fond of your skin to as you are trying to tie them.... . But that is the price you pay for TWEEKIN".... Mac10
Reading an article somewhere on the internet, one fellow uses rabbit hair for summer and craft hair for winter..... Says the fish are less active in winter and craft hair on an FnF will move, but much less than the hair. This is one of those things that are either based on experience, or a shared opinion.....hard to tell which.
BigTimeBuzzer
Yea it is one of those each to his own deal or that work's for me type things. I have tied for 20+ years now and you learn alot through T&E. I have tried about every kind of hair I can get my hands on. Some worked and some did not, but at least they got a far shake at BASS WISDOM...

BigTimeBuzzer
Every journey begins with the first step...SO GET TO STEPPIN" . After you catch the first 5 lbr. on a fnf you tied, it will all be worth it anyways..
stream stalker
Snooterfish: Be careful, there is a big difference between craft hair and craft fur. Craft Hair is what you want. Craft fur is crap. Many times catalogs refer to it as craft fur and you think it is the same........IT IS NOT!!!!!!
BigTimeBuzzer
Yea, that is a old habit that is hard for me to break. I HATE CRAFT FUR...It is like trying to tie something from a cotton ball with the knots left in.
HookUp
Good thread. I tie a rabbit hair jig for a f-n-f guy who says it kicks on Dale Hollow. I only wish I could try it myself. I'm not a fan of craft fur, but it's probably because I got the stuff streamstalker was talking about. Guess I'm old fashion and like rabbit fur the best of them all.
