spungee
I recently tried my hand at pouring / dipping the basstrix type swim baits using the techniques posted on here by Del and others and over all I was pleased for a first attempt. The learning curve is much smaller when following the advice of those here. In one of the posts someone asked what to use as a container for the final (3rd stage)and deepest dip. As I read the suggestions of aluminum cans to herbal tea bottles I tried to think if I had any of those things around the house but I did not. I did however have a two cup stainless thermos that I knew I would never use because of it's small size. I worked perfectly once I nuked the plastic and poured into the thermos. Of course the thermos kept it hot long enough for me to dip all of my baits, and then I simply poured the remainder back into a pyrex cup. The thermos then had to be turned upside down on my work space to allow the rest to drain out as there is no way to reach the bottom of the thermos otherwise. Another thing that I learned it that once your baits cool.....you can spoon a little plastic onto the back side of the cupped tail to strengthen it. But do so very CAREFULLY because it is HOT on the skin:flame: Just thought I would contribute my two cent to reduce the learning curve just a little more. By the way I will be trying them out for the first time this Saturday as I will be participating in my Club tournament. I will report back next week. Be safe! -spungee-
BassnRandy
I went to the local liquor store (those places are neat; never been to one before (lol)) and got my self a couple of stainless steel martini shakers. Threw the tops away. They are about 8'' deep and hold around 16-18oz of plastic. They also seem to hold the heat well as i can dip about 20 baits before I need to reheat. earthworm77
Good suggestions guys. Randy, I'm doing the same thing with those shakers. Easy to clean out as well.

Smallie
Funny you should mention the martini shaker. I went to a flea market Saturday and bought one for a buck. I also bought a 16 oz Budweiser in a bright red container. It has a wall thickness that is twice the normal aluminum can thickness. I cut the top off with my chop saw and it seems like it will work well. It is 6 inches tall and 2 1/4 inches across. I think it is some kind of specialty edition. I haven't tried either container yet but I now know the martini shaker was a buck well spent - thank you.
dsmblack
I'm sure its been mentioned in one of the threads, but what type of plastic are you guys using. I currently use MF super soft for most everything. I'm getting ready to try dipping some of the paddletails as well. I like the idea of a martini shaker. I think I'll buy two...one for dippin...and one for shakin up some Martini's......
spungee
I'm using LC 502 which is between the super soft and the hard plastic. It works very well.
