mbreuning
I have the 797 unit.I have had it for about 1 year.I love it.The only thing is the smaller screen size.I hope that helps.I have found things like foundations that are not on any map that I would never have found with my lowerance unit. jim45498
I have a 797 si and I love it. Just like mbreuning said, they are great. The 997 si has a lot bigger screen but also a bigger price. If you can swing it, go with the 997 because of the larger screen. You will be happy either way. Side image is awesome. You will see stumps and logs you did not know existed.
The Dutchman
Go to www.anglerworld.com the fishing tactics board and you will see many images from the two hummingbird units. Look for LtBama's images.
Mags
I have seen only the 797 in action and I wasn't all that impressed with the smalled screen. I'd go with the bigger screen if it was me, but there is the issue of price. The other thing I saw with the 797 was interpreting what you are seeing. There is some seat time required to be able to interpret the images. From everything I have seen and heard the units are the best out there for the serious angler. I want one bad. JEVSkeeter
I've been using the 997 all year with a 957 up front for DS and spooning. The larger screen is a big plus however, for a more economical package the 797's are great.
bssmstr
I love my 797 but one thing that is not generally known is that the side imaging is at slow speeds - 3 to 7 mph. great for grafting a spot, but not for cruising.
WarrenMN
I saw you thread about the 997 and thought I'd mention I have some screen captures and Tips and Tricks with the Humminbird 997 on my website people are finding useful. I also have some video's the guys are laughing at. I found a ice fishing house and a boat on the bottom of the lake.. I think it was made out of steel roofing or siding. I put a camera inside and did a little poking around outside and it was interesting what I found. I tried to post screen captures that might help people on how to best set up their units. www.accuemap.com WarrenMN
