mad man craw tube

Recommended Posts

Darren "Mad Man" Mooneyham did an incredible job when he came up with this bait...well, actually mother nature did. Anyway, it was a shame that he went out of business. He also had some other great baits including a fluke type jerkbait that had awesome action and even salt water baits. Anyway, they are rather hard to come by. If you are dilligent though, you can probably find some on E-bay. There is a tackle store about 30 mins. from here that sells these baits still. I am not sure what sizes that they have left or colors for that matter. I will check for you if I go that way next week, okay? If they have the size and color you want, I will go ahead and pick up a pack for ya.

you guys are awesome! im overwhelmed as to the responses I get here on this site. Ben, let me know what i need to do to get a hold of him. nick, maverick, big thanks to you guys too. I really appreciate it! and old man in the boat, I use craw bugs exclusively up here and had the mad mans collectin dust in my old plastics box for a year and ran out of craw bugs. as soon as i found the fish stacked i used the big 4" mad man and actually started catching bigger fish! I don't know what it is up here in chicago but a week after ice out these fish are hot for crawtubes in general, as well as right now when water temps are in the 50's.

thanks again you guys.

I was going to order the 4" from yum in green pumpkin. but decided i wanted the 4" and 5" craw from mad man instead. when i click on the 4" at yum's website they send me to lurenet.com. but the 4" isn't available at all. and cabela's sells the 4" in pumpkin pepper and don't have green pumpkin. I use the 2.5" and the 3.25" sizes now with good results. but it seems the bigger the bait the bigger the fish this time of year.

Darren is an awesome guy. I wouldn't buy Yum again if it was the last plastic in the world. It's messed up how they stole his design, so I officially offer my middle finger to YUM, and refuse to buy anything NOT made in AMERICA. That being said Mad Man Lures are getting pretty scarce to find. The main difference I have found between his baits and YUM are the plastics pliability, (his seem to stretch more, maybe better quality plastics) and the extract he uses is different from the typical garlic/salt formula. I believe he uses blackberry/blueberry scenting. I love it, and the fish do too.

Other than the craw, he makes the Baby-Gator (topwater salamander) which RULES summer months, and is great for hooking Texas-rig (weightless) and draggin on top of the moss. He also made some ribbed worms that work pretty well. The hollow Baby-Gator and Craw are definitely the stars of the group.

Keep on truckin', and hope you get better Darren.
