Rod Repair

I have two rods I need fixed over the winter. They are both 6'6" medium spinning rods. They are 2 piece. One needs a guide replaced and the other has been leaving my line frayed. I imagine that their is a cracked guide somewhere. They may need total rebuild? These are cheap rods but I have had them since I was a kid. I have put more pig smallmouth in the boat and won more tourny money on these old rods than my new exspensive rods. In fact my wife has orders to bury me with them. I would love to have them reconditioned. If any one is interested in this please send me a PM with rough cost and time frame.Thanks

Do it yourself.

First, carefully cut the thread off the guide by locating the guide foot, then cutting SLOWLY along the foot up to the head of the guide.

Remove, pick off all thread, heat with a hair dryer, and work off the old epoxy. Your thumb nail works.

Then take the guide, go to Cabelas, Janns, Barlow and located one of similar size. They have ring size charts and colors.

Then take a thin strip of masking tape, tape the guide, and wrap it. Use a cardboard box w/ two triangular cuts on opposite sides to hold the rod, and a book to hold tension on the thread. Go to any rodbuilding website for tips.

Cabelas sells 2-part epoxy for rods in individual packs. You'll need something like flex coat that will not yellow in weather and is flexible.

If you're close to No VA, I'll do it for a beer a guide plus parts.

I often times recondition rods for people but when you've got to pay $30 to ship a rod to me and then another $30 to have it shipped back, its really hard to justify a recondition job unless you can hand deliver the rod.
