Chaozu
I need some help on how to add a hook hanger to my swimbait rod. I like the style of the kistler hook hanger but im really not picky. Do you guys know where i can get a nice hook hanger and how i would put it on my rod? Any help is greatly appreciated. The rod is a Setyr SB 194XH
Mattman
Cabela's and Mudhole each used to have tutorials on how to wrap a guide. That's the same process as a hook hanger. Merrick Tackle had one too at some point. Most any rod building supplier sells hook keepers. Here's a readily available style from Pac Bay ... http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t288/Otterods/Reference/HL-Keepers-Latches.jpg And the one from Reel Time is popular... http://www.reeltimedesigns.com/Drop-ShotWeightKeeperSystem.html
mark poulson
Try using braid to tie on and wrap your hook hangers. When you've finished, coat with super glue. Lasts forever.
WidowMaker
Bass Pro has some hook hangers that resemble a rubber o-ring. They fit around the threaded section of the rod handle. You might would like to try them before you begin wrapping thread and adding flex coat.
mark poulson
Widowmaker, I tried those hook hangers, and they all broke shortly after I put them on. Maybe I got a bad batch. Have you had good luck with them?
Spike-A-Pike
Mark, The braid sounds plenty durable but, I'm thinking Hi-Vis Yellow for those days on the water with a "designated helmsman" at the tiller.

Spike-A-Pike
I am in the process of making a hook hanger out of a modified paper. I first did this about 22 years ago when my then 6 yrs old son wanted one just like daddies fishin' pole. It worked fine then and it's cheap. mark poulson
You can bend your own hook holder out of sst wire, and tie it on. I've found some silcone tape called Rescue Tape that seems to hold them on just fine. My own are about 1 1/2" long, including the part I tie to the rod. I bend them with a small step offset, and an angled end at the start, and tuck the angled end tight against my cork reel seat top on the opposite side from the reel. That way they don't interfer with the line, and I can slip the hook bend over them easily when I'm stowing a rig.

mark poulson
Hey Connie, How are you guys doing? How's the Lake Fork fishing? Good to hear from you. Mark P.S. I came over to the dark side, and bought a Shimano MG50. Best casting reel I've ever owned, bar none. You were right.
