patrick reif
work has slowed down, and i want to try my hand at plastics. the predominate bait i'm wanting to create is the tube bodied swimbait. i've read much here about the process, and think i could manage to make a go at my own private stock. here's a list of materials i'll be ordering from del-mart. please tell me if you think i'm going overboard, or underestimating how far these supplies will go. 1 knife to dip the tubes 1 gallon calhoun tube plastic 1 pt softener 1 pt heat stabilizer 3- 4oz bottles of color black, green pumpkin, white 2oz black string glitter 2oz small size gold glitter i'll be making a mold of poca craws from plaster to drain my excess and minimize waste. thanks for any advice patrick
tubinator
Don't forget the eyes, I use 4mm. Also, you might think about watermelon coloring, and I really like Dels lime glitter for the chartreuse effect. I have allot of different swimbait colors now just by using the glitter, I only wish I could take better photos to show them off.Good luck! patrick reif
my color selections are always as simple as i can keep them. i always use a very light color for clear water, a medium shade as my standard "go to", or black depending on water clarity. in the river i don't think color matters as much as bait placement or presentation. besides, i'll never be a good enough angler to tell you when greenpumpkin will be better than it's cousin watermelon. i just use some form of green or brown, and green pumpkin kind of fills both. tubinator
That's what I thought when I started. I'll just make a few tubes the colors that I like, then this swimbait tube came along and I thought I would play around with it, make a few, no big deal. Crap, now I think I've got that stupid bug everybody that does this talks about. Good luck, stickin' with one bait, and only a few colors, you'll need it! Richard Prager
Hi, This is Richard. I'm writing from rehab. With these intensive therapy sessions, they say I am making great progress and should be home in a few more weeks. I have to keep this short because I'm not allowed on this site anymore. If they catch me, they consider it a relapse and will keep me here another 3 months. They sent someone to my shop to clean out my supplies ( I hid all the good stuff) as this is a program of total abstinance. I think I got them fooled and will making my new shop in the basement well hidden. I think if I limit myself to 2 molds and basic colors/flake, I'll be ok. I hear them coming, I've got to go! tubinator
Tooo Funny 152, I think there should be a sticky at the top of the "soft plastic's forum" for advising of it's addictiveness, and also other testimonials from recovering plastiholics like yourself. I think your experience with relapses would be beneficial to us all!
bhorlings
Okay... so I just ordered my stik kit from Del with Green Pumpkin, Black, & Junebug colors because that what I throw most of the time. Already, I found a mold on eBay (4.5 diamond tail) that is used and went ahead and purchased a color set from Del. I don't even have my equipment yet and I have found myself addicted. Wait... can I be addicted to something I do not have or have not seen yet? Anyways... I hope my work does not look at my interet usage lately!
