longhorn
Yesterday while watching football I carved some canning wax into a swim bait...made a POP/Elmers mold and this is what came out. I am pleased and it swims really well. Please excuse my wrinkled old hands...I tried to take the photos several ways but these are the best of the bait. tubinator
Very nice! You carved the wax with that Knife?Be careful your starting to show a little patience! And by the way the answer to 33 across is "Fisherman"
Joe S.
Wow they do look great, and LOL to the 33 across answer:lol: I tried making one out of modeling clay and had it pretty good but I can not get the whole thing perfectly symmetrical as far as each side, so it probably wouldn't swim right so I didn't bother molding it. nova
I like the idea of wax as a master. Never would have thought of that. It's easier than wood to work with and you can "add" to it unlike wood. Then after you finish, you can melt the scraps into the next block. Thanks. www.novalures.com

They look awesome longhorn. Everytime I visit this forum I get new ideas and inspiration! I was wondering, how did you get such smooth pours? Is that just caused by the Elmers Glue or did you do something with the model after carving it?
earthworm77
Wow, those are beautiful. Nice job Longhorn.
longhorn
Thank y'all for the kind words. Yes, I carved 99% of it with my trusty pocketknife...used a little tool for the eye recesses. These baits are dipped once in clear plastic to seal the eyes etc. I planned on making this a dipped bait so I didn't have to worry so much about the finish on the carving. Elmer's will give a high gloss also.

longhorn
I got the idea of putting glitter on the bait before the dip from looking at Jim's Phantom Shad in Rainbow Trout. Credit where credit is due. Thanks Jim
Tubeman
Nice work, never thought to carve a master from hard wax . That would be much easier to work with than wood.
SwampBaits
:teef:You could even use scented candles, then you'd smell perty too.
tubinator
Tubeman; wax carving is a big deal in the jewelry business as well as other design-manufacturing businesses. There is sooo much out there nowadays, that make the designer's job soo much easier. It's also great for CAD/CAM proto-typing.
