LooksLikeSinbad
I was looking at a Japanese soft plastic called the Deps Ambileg. It's pretty darn ugly but it has a feature that I've never seen before. Check out this "leg" that covers up the point of your jig hook: It's a cool idea for making jig plastics weedless. I was thinking that this would be great on a spider jig. The only problem is what happens to the leg after you catch a couple fish? I would think it would tear up pretty quickly. BassnG3
Years ago you could buy a piece of plastic where one end went around the eye of your hook and the other end went over the barb of the hook. Can't remember who made them but they were the same type idea as this lure.
Basseducer
Bass Pro Shops has what BassnG3 is talking about. The item # is 38-535-287-00. Since they are not attached to the bait you can use them on anything you want. TJ
SmokeyJ
Not to dig up an old topic, but deps applied this again to a new tube bait called the tube ringer: Seems like an even cooler idea on a tube.

Delw
I fish alot of jigs and I like to throw them in heavy brush, someone years ao showed me a trick about taking a small work breaking it off and texas rigging it on the hook to act as a weed guard. works pretty good, then I switched and started fishing 1oz and 3/4oz jigs only the weight of the jig and that worm didnt really work to well. so i made a small little 2piece mold thats perfectly round just for that, I use hard plastic its 4" long and I can break off or cut to anysize jig I need. a buddy of mine who is a tackle whore and buys all his stuff from japan gave me a pack of those worms a year or 2 ago and they worked pretty good. now since I am fishing tubes this year and was wondering how to hook them better and keep them weedless that just gave me the idea to use that plug again Thanks. On tubes and I havent fished them that much I like the fully exposed hook with the weight in the tube instead of outside. I tried just skin hooking the point but it doesnt work that well. cool post thanks. Delw
SmokeyJ
How phallic is that?! LOL! Yeah, I was a little perturbed by that myself, but I still like the concept alot. I usually skin hook a tube like this: But I find I have a bad hookup ratio that way for some reason. I think the standard tube rigging with that little weedless arm would work much better. Piscivorous Pike
The POP mold goes back about 10 years ago. Notice the same hook holding feature on the Reaper. I do not think TU was invented then. These guys are at least 8 inches, for Pike. I use a 1 oz. jig with that set up. That reaper design in Flo Orange got me a #25 Pike one day. You can see how crude the POP mold is, back then I tried to submerge my model, I never found anything on making molds then, I had to be creative. Now I have TU and can glean the best and act like I know what I am doing while still being a beginner. I also take soda straws and make worm molds with them and cast old plastic in that. I take a shank of that plastic and since I use wire leaders with Pike I will hook up one end of that plastic into the snap lock or on the jig eye, even add a piece of leader wire just to holt the upper end of the plastic. After putting the bait on the jig hook or nose hooking the jerk bait on a #5-#7 octopus hook I then take the other end and close the loop putting it on the hook point. It is very effectively weedless that way. Just like Delw above. Those are the substitutes for these BP items: 38-535-287-00 and I make the trebble guard too with an 1 piece mold, I have a piece of nail for shank hole in the mold: 38-426-170-00 PS: I ordered my first!!! liquid plastic ever this week and am waiting for it. I have been melting plastics for so many years now, really don't use or loose that many so it was not worth the bother at first. longhorn
This idea has been around for some time. These MF molds have been for sale forever. M-F Manufacturing Co., Inc. - 817- 281-9488 / Fax 817-281-9498
SmokeyJ
Not surprising that its been done before, in fact I was waiting for someone to show that it had been. I like it on tubes in particular though because they are one of the few baits that I rig open hook.
