Glass syringes for plastics

Recommended Posts

Anybody using a syringe for your plastics???

I bought 2 50cc syringes but they do not have needles and they are a larger than normal ground glass slip fit leur, I have no idea where to get needles?

NO NO NO NO and NO! I thought I had an original idea and would try this. So, I bought a few glass syringes from E-bay. Heated the plastic to a smooth 360 degrees and poured it into the syringe. So far so good...pressed the plunger down and the plastic had already started to cool. A few intermittent squirts and burps and the plastic had congealed and hardened at the opening...FAIL! So, then I had the bright idea to try it again.:teef: It took forever to clean the syringe out by the way...Anyway, the second round, I poured the hot plastic into the syringe and tried to quickly squirt out the plastic by forcing the plunger down hard...HUGE MISTAKE! The glass shattered and molten hot plastic spewed out like a jet stream all over my mold and workbench! You bet your last cookie I was wearing safety goggles and a thick apron and gloves...and man was I glad. I was too embarrased to post that on here, but I thought I would warn you so as to prevent injury. Seriously man, molten, sticky liquid at 350 degrees is nothing to play around with. Ask some of the guys on here...they will tell you...it's no joke and no fun when you get burned. I would strongly caution you AGAINST trying this. By the way, I also tried a stainless steel turkey injector...no luck there either. The plastic cools while in the needle or at the hole where the needle attatches and the plastic jams up. If you decide to try this anyway, PLEASE BE CAREFUL and wear safety gear.

In hindsight, I should have just asked my "forum family" here and they would have steered me in th right direction. I feel like such an idiot guys...can you ever forgive me?????

stainless steel turkey baser seyringes, alot of sporting good stores sell them here down south. they hold about 15 ounces of plastic and are made from stainless steel. spray the inside barrel with spam cooking oil. you will need along pair of needles nose to get the cooled plastic out. break the needle off.

I to have used syringes but no glass ones. I have some plastic ones I got from the local pharmacy 50cc type the ones they use for deworming dogs and horses they seems to hold up to the heat ok but I did notice that when you start to plunge it does seem to shoot the plactis out until the air is out of it. I used cooking spray to lube the plunger. I dont use them anymore as my pouring has became alot more customized. (or I got smarter)I would not recomend them but hey it was fun at the time.

I have used the plastic ones and it worked fine for me but after awhile the tip melted off, the $10 net craft ones I could never get the plastic out of it because it cooled to quick, I now use a stainless one for animals and it works great, you have to use it fast before it cools,

using a needle with it probably will not work because the small hole will probably cool to fast.

Ive heard a few horror stories about the plastic syringes. That is why I bought glass with no metal on them so I can try to heat the whole thing up in the microwave. I need to make some 6" long tips for my syringes though. I also plan on having them on a small hot plate or hot bath after removed form the microwave so they should not plug up to bad. Im also planning on trying super soft in hopes than it thins out better. The guy who made my mold and injected it used a ss injector probably modified store bough ss injector body, if the glass doesnt work ill make a ss one or just a small injection bottom pour pot.

Maybe I missed it but what are you usinf these for? Bloodlines? Try using a hot glue gun. You can make plugs out of baits you mold like a Senko that will fit right in the gun. While I wouldn't use it for my business, you can get away with it for your own baits. It does work and I'm sure it can accomplsih anything a syringe can.

The injectors from Janns r junk stay away from them. And yes the r made to work with their molds. They r very cheap 10 bucks or less they tend to get more plastic on your work bench, walls, ceilings than in the mold and r very unstable. I do have a few of their two piece stick molds and the do pour a good bait for 5 dollar molds
