capecodsmallie
I made my first handpours last night. I got a producton pot and some molds along with the other usual stuff. The color came out fine, but couldn't keep the salt consistant in the pours. Some had salt, some didn't. I noticed a lot of salt at the bottom of the pot. What should I do. Change salt or try a different method. I kept stirring the whole time. The only time I wasn't stirring was when I was pouring. When you add the salt do you mix it all at once or say you're using a 1/3 cup should I put some in a little at a time right before I make the pour. I really appreciate the wisdom shared on this site. I feel like it helped me in making my attempts more easy than if I tried to pour blindly. The color came out perfect. I also noticed how the salt makes the bait a lot harder and the color lighter. Funny, my girlfriend came into the room I was using and said she couldn't breath from the smell. I couldn't smell a thing. Guess it's all those pressure treated fumes I've been breathing in over the years. Killed my smell of toxic fumes. Thanks to all the board members for the help! basskat
If you're going to use a lot of salt, I'd recommend not using the production pot. You have to stir the plastic constantly to keep the alt blended. Also I'd suggest you use popcorn salt or something similar. It's much finer and blends with your plastic better. I only use my production pots for large pours. I perferr to only pour a couple ounces at a time when possible.
earthworm77
Derrick, you really have to stir the heck out of it every so often. As far as consistency, thats how you do it.
Mercury
Personaly when using salts I put the salt in 1st. Then add the plastic. If you try to add it to a cooked batch it can take it out of its "pouring" range really fast. But watch out on heating so you dont over heat it and scorch the plastic. (heat stabiliser can go into your plastic when using lots of salt) Use popcorn salt or grind your own. Table salt will settle verry fast. The fine salt will stay suspended longer. = Less stirring..... Welcome to here....... have fun and glad to have you here!
