bigyen
I have a question for all of you guys who buy your supplies in the states and have them shipped to Canada. I just paid UPS $35 shipping plus a $60.00 brokerage fee on a $120.00 order of plastic. I feel like I have been hosed!! The last few orders I got where shipped via US Post and all I had to pay was PST and GST to Canada Post when I picked up my order. What's the most economical way to have your supplies shipped up to Canada. Do I have to go through UPS or will the post office ship larger orders of plastic, say 5 plus gallons of plastic. wannabefishing
use USPS or Fedex.... i'm not sure how big of a box USPS deals with, as i don't have to worry about it i just ship it to my address in the U.S. and bring it through my business, takes me an extra 2hrs to do so but saves me a TON in shipping and the brokerage and crap... living near Niagara Falls is sometimes a good thing lol
Spike-A-Pike
Glenn, There is a postage rate calculator on www.USPS.com that includes international rates. It looks like wieght, not size, is how the package if priced. My wife is the international shipper in the family. DHL also adds a brokerage fee. Hate to see anyone get with extra charges. nova
Use postal service if you can. You only have to pay $5/box at the PO instead of the big brokerage fees that UPS or Fedex will charge you. That's the cheapest I could find. www.novalures.com
bigyen
Thanks for the info guys! Looks like I'll be sure to use USPS from now on. Glenn
Delw
The safeest and fastest way for plastic is through UPS, yes its more expensive however it will arrive on time and will not likely be damaged or lost. The post office looses tons of stuff going to canada, this hurts you and the seller. I would say about 25%-30% loss/damage rate on plastics going to canada. if you go the fast way to canada it will be ok but you will pay lots of money for it ( as much as ups if not more) if you go the slow way via the post office, it sits in customs in the cold ( winter time) and the plastic is garbage by the time you get it not to mention its usually lost. While fed-ex might be ok for the buyers the sellers get burned big time, cause if the customer doesnt pay his countries brokerage fees and taxs tarriffs etc fed ex bills the seller 6-10 months later and the seller has to pay it and hopes that he gets reimbursed by the buyer. we got burned for over 10k from people who refused to pay there countries tarriffs and taxs when we used fed-ex. this is why we no longer use fed-ex for canadain and over seas orders. you guys think canada is bad you should see the taxs in some other countries. some were in europe( don't remember the exact city or country) a 5 gal bucket of plastic cost over 400 bucks for shipping tarrifs and tax's. I think he told me 5 gals of plastic by the time it got to his door cost over 580 bucks Delw
Green_Fingers
I paid 85$ to get 2.5 gallons, plus stabaliser, a few glitters & colours etc from MF to Switzerland via Fed ex, but I don't pay import tax, don't think Swiss customs knew what it was so didn't charge! Advantage of Fed ex, it only take sa few days, disadvantage yes its expensive, but I make my lures for myself not to sell so don't really coun't the pennies as much as if it was a business! I did have the option to ship by post via sea, for only 25$, but 8 weeks until delivery!!, I would have forgotten what I ordered by then!
