stripercrazy
I fish for stripers and blues and use smilling bill bucktails up to 5 oz, but mostly around 2oz.. after pouring them I paint them with powder paint and bake them at 350 for 20 mins or so then tie them up with bucktail and other flytieing stuff to give them color or flash and generally I use nail polish to cover the threads:) nice and easy...ed

Ogajiga
Saltyross, what species do you target in what area? Stripercrazy, do you prefer the forward rather than center position of the hook eye on the lima beans? Very professional looking ties by the way. stripercrazy
I don't sell, but I sent you a pm:) price of lead has gone up, I pour them, the one's in the pic....some I buy and paint, sometime it's cheaper to buy 25 jigs then paint and tie them than to get the mold/hooks/lead and time

stripercrazy
hawnjigs, thanks...I don't notice much difference .where I use the jigs, we fish rip tides, one place is the cape cod canel in mass. we cast up current and freespool the jigs to the bottom sometimes 20 sec count or more then try to stay in touch with the jig as the current takes it pass us, most inportant thing is getting down to the bottom:) its a mess and we lose alot of jigs whereever the eye is...in rhody I swim the jigs in the breachways...two jettys with a rip going threw them forming a rip out frount, I cast across the rip and let them drop untill I hit a rock and I'll swim it hopely bumping rocks across the rip...I like the smilling bills because the mouth gives them more action and the bean jigs if I have to get down the water collum fast:)
willie525
nice ties, what part of the deer tail is best for tying?
Ogajiga
Stripercrazy, thanks for the info - I wondered if the smiles were for more than just looks. I would think the beans would tumble sideways when hitting bottom making them more snag prone? Every try the banana aka boxing glove design in the moving water? braveviper
nice ties, what part of the deer tail is best for tying? The longer, softer hair is best.
stripercrazy
I though the same about the flatheads but guys have told me that the drag from the line(braid) keeps them upright and that they flap left and right..there 40-80 feet deep where I use them, I'll never know:) I'm going to try the boxer jigs this spring, best I can find them is 3oz, I'll send you a pm...ed
