braveviper
If tackle underground were a magazine,I would subscribe. We could all write articles to be sent to an editor. We have photographers, printers etc.Was there talk of this? Vodkaman
It's a good idea, but I don't think you can beat the instantaneous feedback of the web site. Not only am I addicted to lure design, I am addicted to this site. I have viewed others, but this one is streets ahead of the rest.
Spike-A-Pike
I concure with Vodkaman... Besides, why would ever want to put into print a living, breathing forum. Here members express themselves and it is often an expansion of a simple idea that evolves into a new, or better, or simpler idea. I think of this as a classroom in the round, kind of an experiment where new ideas are embraced. I spent time in the military to see that there are no border or other limits to this forum. There are already enough silly things that strive to keep us apart, I don't want international postage costs to be another. And to each and everyone of you a heart felt Merry Christamas! braveviper
I think my idea was misunderstood,Im not for abandoning the website.i think a printed magazine in ADDITION to the website would be cool.Imagine being in your garage or basement working on a new type of lure while reffering to a copy of TU illustrated?Step by step instructions and so on. Im thinking 4 issues a year or so.Even a newsletter would be cool. The ads would keep costs down.
Vodkaman
I would of course subscribe.
Spike-A-Pike
Yeah BUT... There would be all the regular production issues. Who would be the editor (and why), compensation, who would select the items to be developed into features, compensation, I know at least 2 qualified graphics guys (their compensation rate is about $50.00 per hour), an advertising department (because nothing is free, compensation), marketing department, global distribution plan... Stop the insanity!!!!!!!!!! But, I'm down for a news letter. Either monthly or quarterly... Who would be on the editorial staff? How would we ensure there was enough "value added" to keep member interest?? Maybe a "topics pole" from each forum?? Remember, there are stupid questions, just really poor implementation plans! You know, this idea could start to grow on ya after a while....
nova
If you look at past history of magazines of a sporting nature you will find that the failure rate is very high. It costs a lot of $ to produce a high quality magazine( which is what you have to have in order to stand any chance at all of success). Also; you would need a circulation of a lot more that 4,000 copies every 3 months. Either that or the mags would have to sell for at least $20/issue. If a venture like that was attempted I fear that it could spell the end of TU as we know it, and that would be a shame. www.novalures.com

I still like a news letter
Vodkaman
I have to agree with Nova. The headaches involved with such a venture would just not be worth it. The project would be more than a full time job for one, more like half a dozen. There are already many fishing mags on the shelves to compete with, but TU has the best web site. TU rocks. Thanks to Redg8r, his crew AND the members.
whteglve
I would subscribe to a TU magazine. I think that it'd be a good idea. Look at RodMaker. It's a magazine for rod builders and IMHO a great and addicting mag.

I agree,I enjoy rod maker as well.I have to believe there are more people that make or tinker with lures than build rods...I do both though. If we can get donations from the people here(paper, ink,money...etc) It may be enough to get started. There must be some retired fellas bored at home this winter that could look into it.Anyone have any publishing experience here?
