Spike-A-Pike
I have used a lot of Stren fishing lines over the years and just saw a advert in the In-Fisherman (Oct/Nov) Stren 100% Fluoro. I swear by the mono and the Super Braid is excellent. I have been up in the air about going to a fluorocarbon line because of the comments about stiffness, etc. Can you really get aeay from using a musky leader by using fluorocarbon line??? I'm planning to try is as soon as can find some.
counting-empties
I have tried some 100% Fluoro lines on my surf poles , I can't remember the brand , might have been Seaguar . I didn't like it because it held the coils from the spinning reel when cast and was constantly getting loops in the line . I do use the Seaguar Fluoro leader material for making leaders because its tough but its still no match for something with sharp teeth , Bluefish cut me off all the time . Spike-A-Pike
A couple of months ago, I was on the Stren site and the product wasn't up then. I am thinking if it's as abrasion and cut resistant as they claim, I might try it on a couple of musky rods. I REALLY don’t like using 7 strand leaders and I ‘m looking for something I can tie directly my spinners. I tried some fluorocarbon line a few years ago and for a 60 lbs test line, it didn’t perform very well. It was very stiff and it wanted to jump off the spool in mid-cast. The problem went away by going back to mono or super braid, but I’d like to find a fluorocarbon I can trust.
robbor
Its seems like every time I spring for the next best new thing in line I waste my money. I dont bother anymore. Copolymer lines are supposed to be coated with flourocarbon according to some of the people I have heard talk about it. You may want to try silverthread, it seems to me they were about the first i heard of producing or advertising copolymer lines and they cost about the same as any mono. Every braid I have tried has been a horrible waste, I even contacted the manufacturers and asked them to buy back my unused spools of line and they would not stand behind their products. I alsways use either Berkley XL or silverthread for my small stuff and berkley big game for 15# and up.
olskoolsoulja
Hi Bruce, In Oz I ty a fluro leader(or mono) about 1.5m long to my super braid using a flyfishing knot called the slim beauty. Casts fine through the guides and get the best of both worlds. http://www.anglers-outlet.com/slim_beauty_knot.htm I know it's not a answer to your question but it's a great system.
