baitbucket
Is it possible to duplicate a rods action. For example I have a old herters spinning rod that's 7 foot. When my dad ordered these when I was young, they were med. action. This rod to me seems light action. There are no markings on the rod. All I know is it's 7 foot and has 7 guides, and about 40 trs. old. Any help in finding how to duplicate it would be appriciated.
Spike-A-Pike
A custom rod builder is who I'd ask. If you can actually let them see it they may be able to build a duplicate or keep the same action and add a few improvements that have come along. It almost sound like a steelhead rod my dad used to have.
rodtrader
Bucket, Rod blanks were made differently back then plus over time and use a blanks action will change. Your probably not going to be able to match that action exactly but find a good local builder and they should be able to get you pretty close. Theres no way to direct you on-line, your going to have to let the builder actually handle the rod. Good Luck matt
Mattman
Many of us builders take measurements on rod blanks as we build them. In a nut shell the blank is fixed horizontally and then weight is hung from the tip until the rod deflects a specified length. The weight required to deflect, the angle of deflection, the weight of the blank, etc are recorded. You could have the old rod measured up and get "the numbers" on it. The trick then becomes finding a current blank with similar numbers.
