millsryno
Dave, I am sorry I ruffled your feathers. I felt as though you attacked something I did and got defensive. I felt the need to defend and clarify what I said since you quoted it and called it a damning paragraph. When you do that, people will naturally get defensive. I got defensive on this because there was a fairly heated debate on the subject not too long ago. I thought the whole topic was put to rest and then I felt as though you called me out as doing something wrong (selling a knockoff). Again, whether or not selling a "knock off" is wrong, that is your opinion, we have already gone there with that other thread...didn't know why we need to go there again. At your suggestion, I am posting my PM I sent you here. I meant no disrespect by my post to you, was more just defending what I felt like I was being called out on. Maybe I read the post the wrong way and if I did so, I publicly appoligize. Ryan Hi Vodkaman' date='I just want to let you know I am not trying to start a flame war on the board with you or anybody else. People seem to have strong opinions one way or another regarding "copying" a popular bait. I personally think it does the site no good to flame each other on a board about it and in the end just scares people away. It just seems to be such a touchy subject lately. By debating it numberous times on different threads any time somebody "copies" a bait leads to nothing good. People are not going to change their minds and it scares people away from posting pictures of their pours. People have different interpretations for what this site is. You made yours clear: "This site is about helping and innovation, to produce a better, original lure." I know myself and many others don't share this interpretation with you. To me this site isn't about making original lures. It's about the hobby of pouring/crafting your own baits. It doesn't matter if they are a knockoff or an original. To me pouring is fun. I enjoy cooking plastic, making different color combinations and, most importantly, the thrill of catching something with a bait I made with my own hands. It doesn't matter to me if the mold I poured from was an original mold I made or a reproduction of a mass produced bait. It's the thrill of catching something on something I poured. I like to see new concepts from people, much like what I see from you....I also like to see 3 and 4 color pours of "copies" of mass produced baits. I think some of them are like art work. I don't know maybe I see more than just the design of the bait. There are people on here who truely have an "eye" for the colors that many of us do not have. It's weird but I actually look at the paint schemes of the crank baits and the colors of the plastics more than any of the designs. To me that is what is inspirational and also what gives me the confidence to fish it. This site drives me to create different colors, add different scents, make baits a different softness, etc. and catch fish on them. I guess maybe you are more of an engineer than I and get more of a kick out of designing the baits. Maybe I am more "artsy" or something as I get more of a kick of the color combinations. Anyway, I just wanted to share with you maybe a different point of view. I don't think either of our intrerpreations are wrong as people will make this site what they want it to be and it will be different things to different people. ....nothing wrong with that. I hope the new year brings you a new personal best on one of your own designs. Ryan[/quote']
Vodkaman
A very magnanimous post. My respect for you has only increased.
Smallie
I believe they are refering to the whole ika bait just not the skirt. That makes more sense. I was reading skirts, skirts, skirts and interpreted Ryan's post as such. Does Getbitlures offer larger package quantities than 12?
JSC
Just a side note (by the way this kind of thing is good to discuss -- "Knocking Off" designs). The Master of KO was Jim Bagley but he all ways did one thing that set him apart .. and we should all take note of .. he ALL WAYS made a better product (in my opinion) than the original. I was KO by him and he made a much better product (Salty Dog) and he did others as well. I learned something from it. That is the fine art of "KO" My 2 cents worth.
