kelly
Has any one made there own pads and cut them? Maybe buy silicone from the parts store and mixing color and flake to it. Maybe press it between to flat surfacas with release agent and let dry?

Smallie
I think Kelly is asking about making silicone skirts. I don't think I have seen this on this forum. Maybe on one of the other forums?
kelly
Yes the pads for the skirts. I dont look at other forums so Im asking if any one hase tryed it. Do you think i would have to use pastic coloring. Im heading in the direction of using the clear calking for panters. It stays flexable forever. MDC
Kelly I'm not sure about plastic colorants as they are oil based, but a drop or two of water will catalyze silicone and it will harden in a matter of minutes and is not as flexible. The oil may act different tho. Try it with water, about a Tbsp of silicone and 2-3 drops of water and mix it up. Then try the same with the colorant. Maybe we will all learn something. Let us know what you find out.
MDC
Thinking about how to mold it, you could get a piece of aluminum about an inch wider than needed and what ever length. Have a groove milled down the center at the depth needed with 1/2in left on each side. If your silicone mixture works you could put it at one end of the 'mold' and use a plastic bondo knife to squeegee it down the groove. Sort of how they level concrete. Now we need to figure out how to cut the strands Maybe this?
redg8r
I have done it with surprising results while fooling around with leftover silicone from a moldmaking experiment. I took household silicone sealant (100%) & mixed in a couple drops of craft paint. Spread the mixture on a sheet of wax paper & placed another sheet of wax paper on top & rolled it out with a rolling pin of sorts (I used PVC pipe) Was ready in about an hour. It was tricky to cut consistently, but I'm sure theres an easy way to make some sort of grooved platen (like MDC said) to eliminate the need to cut at all. I tooled around with different colors & glitter to make some cool looking swirl patterns. I put the skirt on a tuna jig & gave it to my old boss. he caught dozens of Dorado in the keys before bringing it back & asking for a few more to outfit all his outriggers. kelly
Yes I was thinking of making a roller cutter and keeping it oiled. planed on using craft cutting wheals and cutting between two metal straight edges to hold it in place. Now craft paint didn't think of that. I truly appreciate the brain storming with me. thank you for your comments.
Vodkaman
Their have been a few good posts on cutters, you might want to try a search if you have not already.
kelly
First try it tured out chunky using any kind of water based paint. Im thinking about starting to pour plastics. When I make that investment I will try that coloring. This will be a work in progress. But my spouse warns me. EVERY TIME YOU ADD A NEW HOBBY TO YOUR SICKNESS YOU HAVE TO HAVE ALLLLLLL THE TOYS FOR IT!!!!!!!!!
