Boskabouter
I made my first jerkbait this week and weighted it. Now I'm ready to test it but I'm in doubt what to do. Should I seal or prime it before testing? If I seal it with envirotex, will painting still be possible?
Swede
always seal first
Boskabouter
Thanx for replying. Will paint hold to envirotex without problems?
LaPala
Light sanding (600grit) the cured epoxy will score the epoxy enough for paint to bite. Your epoxy should look a uniform matte after sanding.
Boskabouter
Thanks for the help. I'm getting the picture. Going to seal it tommorrow and then going to give it some swimming lessons.
apb
As the other guys suggested, seal the plug first. Scuff with sandpaper and the paint will hold. I'll often prime a test plug too, then take a marker and draw a line down the center of the back and put a dot where the eyes go. This lets me see the action of the plug better than just a wood plug. Vodkaman
Ditto to APB. Not a problem now (swimming pool testing facility), but in the past, I would often be test swimming the lure at 2am under a cap mounted light. Painting the body white helped enormously. I need to get a life, maybe we all do!
Boskabouter
Thanks once again guys. Painting the body white with eye dots also makes sense I guess. Learnt something new today! That's why I love this place.
