HookUp
Was at a fishing trade show Friday and noticed an old-timer was tying flys. He had a spent 30-06 cartriage on his tying desk and so I asked why. He showed me. He picked up the top part of a ball point pen, he'd filled with wood puddy, then before it cured, sunk a darning needle into it. That was the poker for the eye and the spent cartrige was held with the business end (where the bullet would go) supporting the bottom of the fly eye. Once quick push with the ball point darning needle and the eye was clean.

Fatman
I use these, their surgical towel holders you can get on the bay. A member on a panfish board recommended them for breaking powder paint out of the eyes and they work great.
