Delw
Thank's for the clarafication Del. So it may look like we have over 5,000 registered members in reality the 1500 or so is accurate. I would say its more than that, that are real.probally more close to 3k and over , Ive been here since the beginning and have seen alot of names come and go. You have to remember some of these guys just don't like to talk but they like to read. they aren't reading just to steal someones secrets they arent on here just to take info in and not give it out. I have turned many guys onto this board that have been reading it from day 1 but just shy in nature, or they think there ideas will be laughed at. if people were worried about others stealing ideas they shouldn't be posting on a public board matter of fact they shouldn't be even telling friends In running a good board never scold people for reading and not participating its just not worth it and it kinda makes you look like a whiner. if you make it a private board so others can't see in you will just drive people off cause they think it is a clique. and those people may decide that this hobby just ain't worth it due to the nature of the people. bottom line people that want to speak up will and those who don't wont, nothing wrong either way Delw

Spike-A-Pike
This looks a lot like a post on any subject. Folks from 4 different countries, ages ranging anywhere from 14 to, I’ll guess, 114??? I am still trying to figure out if the actual subject was about the continued growth of TU and celebrating it or condemning it. The thing that this reminds me of is the fact that we really don’t know how to communicate very well together. Part of the problem with the written word is you can’t hear the inflection in my voice, what part of a word I do or don’t add extra emphases, the gestures I use when I talk, or even the look on my face. Worse still, I can’t read your expression to see if you really understand the point I’m trying to make. I see this as a site where knowledge on different levels is passed back and forth. More than a pure instructional sight, it is more of an ongoing mentoring process. I enjoy the current state of the forums. I don’t think you get just one answer, but several that are basically correct, that you can tune to your specific application. In instructional development, it is a know fact that the more variations of a correct method or process that a trainee is exposed to the more they will internalize the lesson. By going beyond a simple yes or no answer, we expand an individual’s knowledge. As long as personal safety is never compromised, doing a common task differently may create a better way to do something. I hope this wasn’t seen as hijacking the thread. redg8r
The short answer unfortunately is that people come & go, as was said previously, jobs, family, new hobbies, new business. Hell, life effects my participation here quite often. I'm not 100% sure on the conditionals, but the site considers registered members who access the site "x" amount of times within "x" amount of time an "Active member". Unregistered users currently enjoy all the same read benefits as a registered user minus the privelige(sp) to post. In other words, we dont push people into registering. I could add more, but I don't wanna hijack the thread
nova
Let me clarify guys. I wasn't suggesting that anyone was highjacking this thread. What I was saying was that if someone starts a thread about sofbaits and then all of a sudden it changes to, say rod building, than that is not nice. I do realize that threads do take on a life of their own and will, over the course of discusion, evolve into something that only resembles the origional thought. That is ok by me because that is what will happen naturally in an open forum about a not so simple hobby. I'm not a puter nut so I didn't realize that the numbers are not a "true" reflection. My bad. www.novalures.com
redg8r
I'm not a puter nut so I didn't realize that the numbers are not a "true" reflection. My bad. It's an accurate reflection, maybe not 100% because as Del said, there will obviously be a group who registers with the intent to spam, we have about a dozen members with 2 registrations who I watch closely to make sure theres no ill intent, and given the fact we lost hundreds of members in the server crash. Yes, currently about 1500 Active members, we still have over 5000 members, theyre just doing something else right now Now let me tell you about these new rod eyes I found yesterday...........
