MarshManiaC
Guys, last night I was pouring some tails using Tacklecraft pre-colored chartreuse and for the first time, I couldn't get it to set properly. I mixed and mixed for about 20 minutes before I poured it out, it gelled before becoming syrup as always I even tried to heat it a bit over 350 to no avail....still way soft and sticky. I had some glitter in it...could that have caused a problem? Should I keep trying or just toss the stuff out?
woodsac
This is usually the result of the plastic not being properly mixed before you heat it. The factory added hardener probably settled to the bottom and needs to be mixed up real good.
Big Splash
Does anyone have ideas to keep those un-used jugs mixed up? It is tough to get all that settles to the bottom mixed in.
chirmy
I keep my plastic in the 5 gallon bucket it comes in and use water bottles from that. In the water bottles I learned from someone on here to put a nut or a screw in the bottom, this helps mix it up alot faster and it works. when I run out of water bottles (usually fill 2 or 3 at a time) than back to the bucket. The bucket i mix with a cordless drill and a mixer. the mixer i use is one from home depot and has the adjustable top blade. Just keep lowering it as the level goes down, mixes the 5 gallons in a couple of minutes.
MarshManiaC
Good point on the hardware on the bottom, I've done that before but didn't equate it with the plastisol. Anyways..I THOUGHT it was mixed enough.....20 minutes of shaking in a pint container that was half full should do the trick....nothing floating or hanging on the bottom..... I may just mix in the leftover glob with some new stuff.
alsworms
What kind of container are you transferring the pints from? Sounds like the problem is not the pints, but the main jug. Like Woodsac and Chirmy said, the only thing that would cause this is hardener settling to the bottom. If you're giving your pint container more than a few shakes and it's still gummy, you don't have enough hardener in there. Concentrate on keeping the main container mixed (1 gallon, 5 gallon, etc.) before making the transfer. Chris
basskat
I buy mine in gallon jugs. Aboutr once a week I turn the jugs upside down for a week. This seems to help. Just make sure the top is on good!
kidlizard
we get our plastic in 5 gal buckets as well, and transfer it over to the gallon jugs. I also like to add a large nut to the gallon jug for mixing. For the 5 gal buckets I use a drill and a paint mixing attachment I got at lowes for 6 bucks. It works great. MarshManiaC
Catchy title for this thread, eh? Welp, I thought I had mixed the gallon up good enough but I think that may be it. Can I just add some hardner to it and still use it?
alsworms
Great title for the thread. I had to make sure I was on the right site. Basskat brought up a good point. I get my plastic in 5-gallon jugs and as soon as UPS delivers I set 'em upside down. Makes mixing the hardener a lot easier. Chris
alsworms
Oooops.....forgot to mention that the hardener will do the trick. Try one part hardener to 2 parts plastic. Chris
Jackllbass
I use two large marbles in my gallon of plastic and shake it up often as I use it and have no problems. Later<>< <>< <>< <>< Jack
