CreekMonster
I was wondering if anybody out there who could maybe give me the dimensions of a punkinseed 730/740. I would like to try my hand at making one but have no idea of the actual size. At 40 to 50 bucks a pop I just can't bring myself to buy one just to measure it, and I want it to be at least close to the right size. Height, width, length, etc. A diagram would be really nice. Thanks Jay
clamboni
If you're talking about copying a lure, find it online, save a picture, open it in paint, and stretch it as needed.
benton B
Creek, who makes the bait? I've got a pick of the old Heddon Punkinseed that you can resize to what ever deminsions you want. PM me an e-mail address and I'll send you that pic.

BobP
Do a Google search and you'll find several collectors' sites with all the paint patterns. They say it came in various sizes. 2 1/2" is mentioned in one.
CreekMonster
If I touched a nerve I didn't mean to. I have never actually seen one other than in pictures. As far as the dimensions, I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and I have followed a few on ebay, but prices always jump the last hour or so. I'll keep trying. BobP
Hey, don't know about anyone else but I'm nerve-less Just providing info. Apparently, there were 3-4 different sizes of the bait made back in the 1940's.
CreekMonster
You know, copying a pic onto paint and stretching it never crossed my mind. If I pull it out to 2 1/2", the proportions should be right. Thanks Clam & Benton & Bob & everybody. My brain doesn't seem to want to cooperate with me today. Man, I feel like an idiot Thanks Yall! ThanksJay Jay, they're about 1.5" belly to backbone and 2.5" nose to tail..Use a photo as others have stated for a pattern,, Cut a blank from 5/8" stock, round over the belly leaving it a bit "plump" , round the backbone over at about 1/2" and you'll be real close in size.. I make about 40-50 Punkinseeds a year, sell to collectors.. If you want vintage appeal, just rob an old Heddon River Runt or Heddon Midget Digit lure of its lip & hook hangers as they're the same hardware.. Attached pic below shows one I made for myself & painted in a Largemouth Bass pattern.. John~
