fisheye56
Looked on line at Lurecraft and Del's can't do an apple to apple thing so how is calhouns 1207 or lc 502-536 for someone starting out? lc has a small startup for 36 and change del little more elaborate 57 and change what direction if one is softer than the other how does that effect a beginner? BBC
Are you just buying plastic or are you buying molds as well? I'm assuming your talking about the kits that lurecraft and Del sell with plastic, dye, glitter, and a mold. If that's what your talking about, it's more of a question of what kind of mold do you want (aluminum or silicon). A lot of people start with Del's stik kit. Also, what kind of baits are you planning on pouring??? Most of us use supersoft plastic (Calhoun's 1207, LC's 536, or MF supersoft) for sticks and dropshot worms and we'll use the regular plastic (Calhoun's 2601, LC's 502, or MF's regular) for just about everything else. If you're looking to make tubes, you'd want the tube or saltwater plastic. Everybody here has their favorite plastic. For the most part the softness between brands is very similar (MF supersoft tends to be a little softer than Calhoun's and LC's though). Hopefully that answers at least some of your questions. If you give us a better idea of what you plan on making we could give you more specific answers. Eric
fisheye56
I'm sorry I wasn't clear, I want to know which plastic and or start up kit would you recommend. LC or Del's {I need to get it ordered}I'm doing nothing but drop shot baits, with a small slender worms to come, all baits are 3" to 3 1/2" Finished my last models last night have 5 pop's to make tonight. Will set up and pour pop's let set up and do the elmer's seal thing tomorrow. I want to do a test with regular tube silicone just to see if I'm on the right track just afraid I'll destroy the mold. Can I use silicone caulk for a test in a pop?Pop sealed and lubricated before I put in caulk ?
IGETBIT2
No disrespect to Del but Lurecraft plastic is the way to go. Have had no problems what so ever.
Delw
no disrespect taken, but I don't think you ever used our plastic remember jeffs was bad when you started using it Soft plastic from calhoun is a tad hard for really soft dropshot baits, you just add softener to it. we could sell a super soft plastic but I elected not to cause I don't want to have to mix the stuff, not to mention I want consistency from every batch of soft plastic this way one batch wont vary from the next batch. if I goof and add more or less then calhoun gets a bad rap for my mistake. Calhoun has a certain standard they meet for every batch we know its the same from one batch to the next.( quality control)
IGETBIT2
I know you dont make it so i didnt think you would take offense but i wanted to make sure i didnt ruffle anybodys feathers. We have had nothing but positive experiences with Lurecraft. Unfortunatley all it takes is one bad apple or batch to give ya a sour taste in your mouth. Not only that it is much cheaper to ship to us because we are so close to Lurecraft. God Bless Dan
fisheye56
I'm still out in the cold where to go for dropsot plastics I jut want to get started Del I did call your shop and left message I know your busy. rr316
I use Calhouns and really like it, it has a better pot life and have never had a problem. Sampled most of the other brands and went back to Calhouns. I found with any plastic though don't let it sit in your garage if you live up north... it was -20 this Morning and Im sure the 1/4 gallon I have left is now meant for experiments:drool:... Ohhh well have been meaning to order more just been way to cold out to mess with for now
Smallie
Fisheye56 - If you read the sticky at the top of this forum, you are going to be told that Calhoun, Lurecraft, MF and Ozark make the best plastic. Why? Because everyone has their own preference. The only way to get to where you want to be is to try them. You can add anyone's softener to anyones plastic pick a vendor for plastic and so buy some softener with it. If you need some additives such as glitter, colorant or hi-lites, that may push you towards a specific vendor. If not, place an order and get your feet wet. Only you know what you like.
