Powder Coating Heads

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,I am usually over in the hardbait section but I have recently started making a few finesse jigs.what I am trying to find out is if and how do you go about powder coating jigheads that already have the fiber weedguards in them.I buy my heads (dont make enough of them to buy a mold yet) unpainted with weedguards already in them and I have been painting and then top coating them with epoxy but this is a very slow process compared to powder painting.I have read over some threads here and know that you have to heat up the heads before applying the powder and then have to bake it on in an oven, but nothing really mentions doing this with fiber weedguards on them. How has anyone else done this?also like to know if anyone here makes a round weedless head that has a trailer keeper nub on them as well as a top ring to hold the skirt on tight?I like a 1/4 or 5/16 oz. head and prefer the 5/16.

Most put aluminum foil or copper tubing over the guards. You also need to lower the heat when curing. Look up dayooper at http://www.tjstackle.com/ he's got everything you need over there, including all the answers.

If you're buying them with weedguards, I would suggest finding a member that will pour them for you in trade, it's much, much easier, at least to me.

I am new to this site but thought I would throw my 2 cents in. I have been using a tube for the powder painting and then using bread ties in the oven just tight enough for the weed guard not to twist it's not as slow as you might think but it does take practise on the tighteness I can do 50 or 75 in least than 30 mins.
