thedude
So i'm looking at their blank models and i want an rx7 casting blank - 1 piece 6'6" med/fast or med lt./fast and i don't see a "casting" blank that i like. My question is - is there really much difference between a casting blank and a spinning blank? i don't see why you couldn't put a casting seat on a spinning blank i guess... borderbasser
There is no problem putting either seat on either blank. Some times the spinning blank won't have as much backbone as a comparable casting blank in my opinion. The RX7 is a very good blank by the way. Especially for the $
BBC
It is my understanding that people use the spinning blanks for both spinning and casting rods. I built a spinning rod with their 6'6" med. action spin jig rod. I don't see why you couldn't use that rod for a casting for as well. Check out rodbuilding.org. I know that this has been discussed over there. I'm not sure where you live or who you usually order your rod components from but the guys at fishsticks4u are a great resource as well. I usually just call them and tell them what I want and they hook me up. Hope that helps. Eric
thedude
thanks guys. pretty much what i figured. I just finished up a spinning rod i built on an IMB843 rx7 blank... love the way it feels so far... can't wait to use it. Also - i found this on another site - he has great prices for the rainshadow blanks: http://www.customtackle.com/cgi-bin/cts/ctstore.cgi?page=rainshadowim6.html i would call in your order though, had some trouble getting it to go through on the website. Only took 3 days to get here too.
Elken
A blank is a blank... I have spinning rods built on casting blanks and casting rods built on spinning blanks. You just need to find a blank with the characteristics you want for a particular rod and then build it the way you want it.
Mattman
A rod blank isn't smart enough to know that it's being built as something it isn't designed for. Find a blank with the line/lure ratings and action you desire and build it the way you want to.

I've been ordering from him for my last 3 rods and he'll make sure that you have the right size reel seat etc. Plus, he's really helpful if you have questions about building or parts. Last time I called, he must've spent a good 45 min answering all my questions.
