rookiepourer
I have been pouring for a few months and was curious if anyone has had this same problem as I have. When pouring purple colors it seems the color changes with the temp. I use lee pots and they are really hard to keep at a constant temp. Has anyone had this problem? Any remedies? Ryno Plastics
You bet! I never pour any purple colors with the pots. When I have to pour junebug or any similar colors, I sitck to using the pouring pans. I think this also has something to do with the type of plastic I've been using...3-G I'm finally about out of the stuff so hopefully that will be the end of these "color" problems. Wish I could be more helpful Ryan
earthworm77
please explain the problem further. I pour a ton of grapes and purples out of Lee pots andI do not have any problems. I have run 5 pots consecutively with no changes in hue.
rookiepourer
I had several batches of purple change color in the pots. I use a digital thermometer in the pot. Plastics used Lurecraft 536 and Calhoun reg. I think it was due to the temp spiking on me. the temps never got above 360. My lee pots temp dial sucks. you have to constantly adjust it. Using Lurecraft 536 I can pour around 310-320. The Calhoun takes a little bit high temp. 330-340. It also might be due to the red flake. I only salt the bottom of the worms after pouring. alsworms
Hi Mark, The only time I have a problem with purple is when adding red flake - like you mentioned. It will turn a brownish color with both the pots and cups. I add the red flake just before I'm ready to pour and it has helped a lot, but you still have to be careful about overheating the plastic. BassnG3
I noticed with the cups the first time I poured black grape with red flake when reheated, it turned to brown. The next batch and all subsuquent batches I added stabilizer and encountered no problems. My problems with disco;oring is with chartreuse turning orange on me. earthworm77
What type of glitter are you using? Do you think that glitter is leaching color into the plastic? I've never noticed it before.
alsworms
I don't think it's the glitter, but more the color. I use MF and Lure Craft glitter. Red is the only color flake I can't add to purple or black grape without problems. Chris
rookiepourer
I am using Lure Craft glitter. I don't know if the glitter color is leaching out. The purple ends up taking on a brownish hew or smokey hew. Its been awhile since art classes in college but if you add red to purple I think it would just darked the color. thanks for the feed back Mark
