stankdog
I use a ton of swimbaits like Storm and Calcutta, with the lead molded in, after these baits get wrecked I always save the inserts( hook with molded lead) and was wondering is it possible to use these in a swimbait mold. It seems I would have to make a mold then at some point insert the hook/weight in the still soft plastic. I have tons of these hooks/ weights laying around. Any thoughts or ideas? BTW most inspiring website ever!
earthworm77
Of course you can load them into your own pours. You'd have to make a dolly or jig out of wire or paperclips to keep it in position as you pour the plastic into the mold. I'll look as I might have a photo or two because a while back I was loading jigs heads into my swimbaits.
stankdog
I knew someone here had probably done this! Would this only be possible with a one part mold or could it be rigged for two parts?
earthworm77
With a one part mold you could very easily rig up a contraption to hold the jig in place, imagine laying a paperclip across the head of the mold and through the hook eye to keep it out of the plastic. Than you'd have to make sure the hook remains parallel in the mold. For a two pc. mold, there would have to be channels cut to hold the head in place. You also couldn't see it as you pour and multi color pours would be difficult.
