Big Splash
The ice has finally cleared the rivers here and the lakes are all dark- the ice will clear in a few days. This is one of the most exciting times to fish for Rainbow Trout. The fish are in beautiful silver condition, and large hungry fish cruise the shoals looking for aquatic insects like dragon fly nymphs, leeches, chrionomids and scuds. The fish are often visible and not selectivly feeding, so will take many types of fly (or lure). The hot action happens before the lake 'turns over', so there is only a few days to a few weeks to enjoy this great season. Anchor your boat in deeper water and cast to fish feeding in the shallows. Wear good sunglasses and a hat with a good bill or rim to shade your eyes and get maximum vision.
