cflbasser
I'm getting ready to order a 1 gallon container of plastic and I am trying to decide where to buy. Everyone recommends buying from Del and I have read that LureCraft has a reputation of poor customer service. But, when I do the math (according to their web sites), LC's plastic is cheaper (shipping included). Del: $23.00 + $18.85 s/h = $41.85 LC: $29.95 + $5.95 s/h = $35.90 That's a $5.95 difference Am I missing something? Plus, If I order from LC, I can get some other stuff like coloring and have that included and only have to pay shipping once. Any thoughts on this? Senkosam
Too bad you can't use 5 gal. 5 gals Soft hand pour from Del is $75.00 or $15/gal. plus S&H. Sam
woodsac
Having only used the LC plastic for about a year, I thought I would try Calhoun, just to avoid the LC customer service issue. I can tell you now that I would spend an extra $10 for Calhoun plastic over the LC. Not only do I not have to deal with LC customer service, but the Calhoun plastic pays for itself in quality! alsworms
Calhoun is only 10 bucks per gallon if you order directly from them. The problem is they are limiting their shipping zones now. All of the west coast guys must go through distributors now. Some of you fellas in the eastern states could probably still get a good deal. docirv
I have never had any problem with LC in any shape manner or form. No customer service problems ever. I have no complaints about them. That being said, I would have to say that dealing with Del is just a pure pleasure. He is one of us! On top of that, Calhoun plastic is way superior to LC in so far as the settling issue is concerned. If you are not familiar with that let me explain. Each of these plastics have hardeners and such in suspension that will settle out. The Calhoun suspension settles out as a liquid within the liquid plastic, so a few good shakes is all that you need to mix it adequately. The LC plastic on the other hand has suspended solids that settle out in a glop on the bottom, and mixing, well, mixing it can be a form of aerobic exercise. Hope this helps you in your decsion. Tubeman
Thats too funny your right on the money docirv. I saved the 5 gallon pails from when I used to order LC plastisol and cleaning that hardner of the bottom was a pain in the rear. I use Calhoun and nothing else...in fact I should have 110 gallons up here by Monday. The plastisol Calhoun produces outlasts LC 2 to 1. In the long run you might save some cash, but your lures wont stand up to the competition....and LC plastisol stinks when cooking...that cant be good for the lungs. BassnG3
I ordered 5 gals of Calhoun and thought that it would take forever to use it up but once you start pouring it goes quick! BassnG3
cflbasser
Thanks Chris... BassnG3... I'm beginning to lean towards buying 5 gallons. It seems more economical in the long run. Thanks for everyone's help
Shmang
What states does Calhoun consider to be "Eastern"? Iam in Ohio and wonder where the demarcation lines is. Thanks
cflbasser
They are located in GA so I'm not sure. Luckily I'm in FL. I'm planning on calling them during lunch tomorrow. I'll let you know what they say...
Delw
Calhoun plastic will only sell 55 gal barrels or more to customers. Anything less than 55 gals goes through a distributer. Any amount of plastics in 5 gal drums also goes through a distributer. Like wise the Distributer referrs anyone That wants 55 drums or more to Calhoun The Distributer deal was set up so people could get a High quality plastic and a reasonable price. WHat was happening is that everytime someone wanted a 1 or 5 gal bucket calhoun had to pull someone off the line to fill up the buckets. Calhoun mainly sells in 250 gals tubs and up to big injection manufactures, the sold in 55 gal drums to the littler maunfactures. Calhoun is a superior plastic to anything thats out there now for a few reasons. a few of which are The consistancy No hard settling No smell when using it indoors(in microwave and pots) Doesn't smoke(in microwave) and very little smoke in pots(if any at all) The Plastic is alot more durable than any other plastic out there. Colors are righer and brighter Delw
cflbasser
Del - I assumed that Calhoun would not be interested in selling 1 gal containers to the little guy such as myself. That's not how manufacturers make their money. And, I'm not trying to take business away from you. I'm just trying to do what is the most economical for me. I can't see paying nearly as much to ship the plastic as the cost of the plastic itself. It just doesn't make good business sense. But, if I can only get the plastic from a distributor, and pay the high shipping costs, then that's what I'll have to do...
Delw
Oh I understand with you 100% and I know what you mean about the shipping. Thats the problem with some of this stuff we do for hobbies we pay more in shipping than we do for the product. When I first started buying m-f my shipping was over the cost of the plastic I switched to 5 gals and I saved alot but I also spent alot in shipping. 1/2 - 3/4 the cost of plastic. I post on this board just like the rest of you do, I didnt mean for it to sound Like I was worried about someone taking business away. I guess I haven't gotten used to this yet. I normally can find a local wholesaler for all of my hobbies.
