Reheating Clear Plastic

Recommended Posts

I have a question regarding reheating clear plastic. I am fairly new to all of this so bare with me. I heated some plastic the other night and just wanted to make some clear baits. The first pours came out really clear like I wanted them and then the remaining plastic in the cup cooled as usual. I reheated the plastic for 15 seconds, stirred(still a little gooey) Then reheated for another 15 seconds stirred and poured. The plastic then had a slight yellow tint to it almost a light amber. Did I burn it? Can you reheat clear plastic or is it toast after the first batch? Any thoughs would be appreciated. I hope to contribute something to the forum here soon other than picking your guys brains for info. I am so addicted to making baits it is scary. LOL I think I spent more in POP and plastic and glitter and coloring than I probably would have in buying baits in a whole year.

Years ago we tried all the brands of plastic. LC worked out pretty good for us minus the settling problem which doesn't bother us. However, I think all brands will burn to some extent if heated to long.

Try some stabilizer, that will help. We use it on all of our lighter and clear colors. It won't make the plastic invincible but it will get you 2 or 3 more reheats...

The you reheat, the more yellow or amber the tinge in clear. Like JMik said, heat stabilzer works to a degree, but any temp over 350 is going to result in amber plastic when reheated. I try to pour at 300 or less and note that the tinge is less even after 2 repours. LC and M-F seem to be the best IMO; others like Ozark also.
